Hey guys.
I know a guy with stock Stealth turbos (T/3 or T/04) I know they are the stock turbo that came with the 2G Tsi's.
I know that my car has had a turbo kit on it before (other owner took it off before trading it in). I think the fuel pump is still left over from the conversion, but it will be checked out before I start any work on it. The engine has been rebuilt, with 12,000kms on it.
So my questions are. If I have the turbo and the fuel pump, what else will I need? I know I'll need the down pipe, and the manifold and a ECU. I'm guessing it would be recomended to get a FMIC as well.
What kind of boost would you guys say is good to run on a stock 420A. I'm guessing about 7-8psi?
Can anyone give me a quote of how much all this would cost, excluding the turbo and the fuel pump?
I've been debating between turbocharging or keeping it N/A. Keith Losier has recomended I go with a turbo, because it's cheaper. Thanks Keith.
I know a little bit about turbos, my first/winter car is a Mazda 626 GT turbo, and when I drive my Mazda after the Talon (even though the Mazda has 351,000 orginal kms). I just love when the turbo has spooled up, and the power throughs me back in my seat. The Esi Talon doesn't do that..........................................yet.
Thanks guys.

T3/T4... Yeah we could only wish that was true! The 2g's came stock with a Garrett t25 (Smaller than the 1g's Mitsu 14b) The stealths came with little mitsu turbo's and I'm not too sure if they were TD04's or TD05's. They had something like a 12b compressor on them, Way too small for you. I would use the 14b but all I can say is have fun sorting out the fuel! You can do it properly and have it run forever or you can half ass it and try to make it through the summer. Unless you really know your stuff I wouldn't recomend doing this, For most people the kit is the only safe way.

Yes Phil, it's Willy's old car. He traded it in last year for a 2001 Prelude at Mississauga Honda.
I live in Meadowvale, so you might see the car.
I had the car for a half hour, and the engine went, so Mississauga Honda had the Chrysler dealer put a rebuilt 420A engine in, it's got 12,000kms on it and the car has 90,000kms. Pretty low for a 1996, and it only had 78,000kms when I bought it.
One of the guys at the Chrysler dealer knew or knows Willy, and told me that the engine had a turbo kit on it, but I don't know for a fact that there ever was. But I was told that's probably why the engine went, to much boost on a stock engine.
Phil, if you know anything else about the car and the turbo kit that it had, could you e-mail me? Brianwiley@rogers.com Thanks Phil.
Also, so now I know that the 2g's didn't come with the T3/T4. The Star Performance kit comes with a T3/T4 Turbonetics Hybrid Turbo Charger. If this is the same as what's in a 1991 Stealth, then I can take one of his turbos and just buy parts of the kit, right? I'm only looking for a little more power, not alot.
Thanks. Brian

brain, for the price you are going to pay for a turbo kit ($3-5K) you are better off to search around for a 2g that has been written off. a auction would be a good place to start.
then from there, just about everything is plug and play.

Thanks for coming out. Brian, I believe the Hahn Racecraft turbo kits use Mitsu turbos, which means their kit, minus the turbo and fuel pump if you've got it (i.e. manifold, downpipe, fuel mods, etc) would probably work with a Stealth turbo. With that said, you're really not saving yourself much in terms of time/effort and money by going with a used Stealth turbo. Given the choice I'd stick with a complete kit.

Thanks Jeff, but what if I can get the Stealth turbo for next to nothing? then get the manifold, downpipe, fuel mods, etc?
Wouldn't that be cheaper? I'm only looking for a setup that can give me at most 10psi. I'm not going to run anymore then that, at least not on a stock 420A engine.
I know where there is a 1995 Tsi AWD for really cheap, it was in a crash. The car is stock and has low Kms. But because the 4g63 setup isn't a easy swap to put into a 2G N/T, I haven't bothered buying this car, this car is also cheaper for me to buy then the Hahn turbo kit is.
Thanks for the help guys.

Wouldn't that be cheaper? It will obviously save you the cost of the turbo (the Hahn kit comes with a 16g) which I suppose makes a difference, but you're replacing it with a smaller, used turbo, so it's not exactly a win-win. The only other concern I'd have is that the Hahn kits come with 10 cm exhaust housing turbos, and no doubt the Stealth turbo would have a much smaller housing. It will still bolt up, but this means the manifold that Hahn sells is probably ported to match that large exhaust housing, and you might not be able to port the exhaust housing on the Stealth turbo enough to match. You're probably best to call Hahn and see what they think. Or better yet, do some research into which kit is better (the Star kit and the Hahn kit) because if the Star kit is significantly better (I've heard lots of horror stories about Hahn's poor build quality) then the decision has been made for you, since the Stealth turbo would be useless on the Star kit. Check out the http://www.2gnt.com/ since they have some info on the turbo kits there, and you might be able to get in touch with some of the owners of the kits. http://www.dsmtalk.com might have some good info in their archives as well.

Thanks again Jeff.
Sean, I don't want a Tsi. I have a few reasons as well. First, I don't want the AWD (nothing wrong with it, I just don't want it). Second, if I did buy a turbo car, it won't look the way I want it to, might not be lowered properly, probably won't have the low millage that my car has, etc. The third reason is insurance, and the last reason is (and I'll get some flack from you guys, I know) I can't see buying a turbo car, then buying a new turbo and turbo parts, then having all these left over parts like the turbo, intercoolers, etc.
But thanks for the help guys.

Phil, I was looking in the Auto trader today for a friend who is looking for a 2G Talon. I came across a 1995 yellow Talon. My gf said she saw one on Creditview the other day and she's pretty sure the on in the AT is it. He wants $11,000 for it. So I'm betting that this might be the car that you've seen alone with seeing mine. The difference is I've got the 3 piece Eclipse spoiler, he's got the Talon window spoiler. I've got yellow door handels, his are black, and he's got tint. Oh, and my Eagle on the bumper and the Eagle/Esi on the rear are shaved off the bumpers. But yes, Willy did own my car.
