That’s sweet. You should take it for track;) I wonder which one you ride the most.

Looks great Dan, very nice! Remember, to either: -ride like you're invisible or -ride like you've got a flashing sign above your head that says "$1,000,000 if you kill me" Both are about right.

I promise to be careful In fact, I haven't even started the bike since it got delivered. My helmet is still in transit, so I wasn't able to get it this weeknd. Even so, I promised my wife I wasn't going to ride the machine until I take my refresher course in 2 weeks. Also offered is an "Advanced rider course" that I plan to take once I get up and running. This course teaches additional skills that I think will be most valuable. This is my helmet, BTW And here's my jacket
I want an RS4.

What do they teach at these courses to make them so 'hot to have'? I learned to ride before I was a teenager. To me it all just seems to be common sense. I saw an 'advanced race school' in California that taught about counter-steering the bike to lean. Er, there's people that don't do that? Other drivers are stupid enough to cut off 18-wheelers, I don't think they'd even think about doing it to a bike.

It's more of a training on how to ride a bike, get used to the controls, and general rules of the road.
A lot of people don't take the course at all, and it's not mandatory............but it's just a good idea. By taking/passing the course, you automatically get your M license, as well as an insurance break, that alone is good. I haven't been on a bike in 15years, and I probably very rusty, so I would just feel better (and so would my wife) if I took another course. If I am going to screw up while I get my "groove back, I might as well screw up on someone else's bike before I take mine out.

Nice Bike Dan---surprised you didn't go with the all back R6. I bet it gets hot in Dallas but I'd be looking for a leather jacket soon, that looks like a textile jacket. I just got back from another track school, guy cut me off then took out my front tire in a 180 degree turn and I went down doing about 70-80 kms----I was on another bike in 15 minutes, would have been a different story if it wasn't for the leathers. check out www.starcycle.com for some great deals. and www.motonation.com (N.American distributor for Sidi boots). Watch out for that first oil Change on the R6's, I hear they aren't that easy with the new Moto GP style exhaust. Keep the shiny side up

LOL Pat You'll be happy to know that I have periodically taken the Talon beyond 5000rpm now...... .........to 5800RPM.... I keep thinking: You and Mark did such a good job on the rebuild, surely I can beat on it a little....... Then I read about others who beat on their DSM's only to have them turn into really nice garage decorations. Oh well, the Talon is running really well down here (I am sure the cooling system is getting quite the workout.) and likes the occasional flogging. As long as everything works as it should, I am happy. Needs more power though, I got walked by a GTO last night, and that will not stand. Steve: At the risk of sounding like a chick, I was always attracted to the blue.....and it's a very pretty blue too. The all black, or "Raven" as the R6 purists insist on calling it, usually fetches a higher price because of the appeal. That, and the 50th anniversary yellow. Personally, I wanted the blue because it's just hot. As for the jacket, I wanted leather but no one here sells them because there's just no demand for leather. This Joe Rocket textile jacket is really nice, with armour in the sleeves shoulders and a really thick spine shield. Quite durable and a little more breathable than leather. Hopefully I won't have to test it out. The oil change is pretty straight forward, but there is some dissassembly involved to get at the filter. The bike has to go in after 600 miles for it's first maintenance visit, so I'll let those guys deal with it until I am more familiar with the bikes layout. I am more concerned with getting the tire(s) scrubbed properly. Apparantly they are a little slick right from the factory, and will cause you to dump if you give it too much vrooom.

Not this boy. There are plenty of places around here to go have some fun with the bike, but daredevil stunts in traffic is not one of them. Too many people turn themselves into a stain, and while accidents are never planned, they can often be avoided by just using some common sense.
Today, I saw a guy pull on to the interstate, gun the giggle stick and pull a wheelie in the passing lane for a good 30 seconds. I was totally waiting for this dumbass to dump his ride right in front of us........He made it, but that's how bike accidents happen: doing stupid sh*t.
My super slick carbon fibre helmet came in today:)
I have resisted any desire to put CF on the DSM, now I wear it on my head.

I have a purforated Leather jacket and it vents pretty well even at 40 degrees (turn your wrist and get out of the city and the heat goes away), you'll appreciate leather the first time you go down and make the switch to leather.
Speaking of putting your bike down, buy some Framesliders. For the $60-90, it'll save thousands in repairs/fairings.
Have fun with it.
