Hey guys,
I hit a huge pothole in my Mini Cooper S and now I have very minor rim damage and huge bubble on the sidewall of my Dunlop Sport 9000 DSST runflat tire. I've heard of people charging the city against this kinda of damage. Anyone know where to start?

Good luck. Most cities will not cover damage of that sort. They have by-laws protecting them against this sort of thing. You can try contacting the road works division but it likely will fall on deaf ears. Usually you have to take them to court to get anything out of them.

Maybe in Alberta that's how it works, but not here. I've heard personly of people making claims and within 6-8 weeks they receive a cheque (with proper paperwork, of course) The guy I talked to at the rim place (wheels direct) told me he did it himself and got a cheque once he was able to get a hold of the right person. The only catch was the city needs to know about the pothole first before you make a claim - that's what he told me. I just don't know what numbers to start calling to get the ball rolling ....

I have filed a claim for this happening before. I got the money.

You go to city call with estimates. They are required to "check" roads at a certain frequency. If they don't, they are at fault.

I got $2000 for a bit of suspension work and bubbled tire from Durham region.

Mark,

Saw a news special on Toronto Roads within the last two weeks....I remember them quoting that Toronto pays out $300,000/year for pothole damage. Problem is I don't remember if it was Global News or City, check both websites, you might have luck as they posted how to start with a claim. Hope it helps.
