I was just wondering if anyone knew of any really high temp. paint? I checked in Canadian Tire, and the highest temp. any of their spray cans went to was 1200 degrees. I know areas like the exhaust manifolds on these cars get hotter than that, does anyone know where you can pick up paint that goes to a higher temp?

Thanks Ziggy, but gray isn't exactly what I was lookin' for. There must be some other way around this. I've got access to a powdercoating machine whenever I want.. I wonder if that will hold up to the heat.. I'll have to find out.

Pete, yah, I didn't figure it would, just a bit of a pipe dream I guess! I couldn't remember what the temperature was in the oven that bakes the paint on. Either way, I'm going to be powdercoating all the structural pieces underneath the car, and that should look good!
And Chris, if anything, I would be using some sort of high temperature engine paint. BBQ paint is usually not rated for nearly as high temperature as a paint made for say, exhaust manifolds or other engine parts.

yah, thanks grenon, I'm actually thinking about doing that. I just don't know how much it is to get it ceramic coated. What about chrome coated? Would that hold up to the heat?

I saw on Trucks, that they have a coating really close to looking like chrome that can handle the heat. Not sure of the name but they probably have a website!

The VHT 1200o flameproof coating will hold up I've used it on several turbo's, 2 and 4 stroke exhausts and exhaust manifolds. It will not burn off if properly applied.
Also por15 makes a good hightemp paint that works well but it's a lot more $$$ and harder to apply

POR15 also has POR20 and Black velvet/ POR-20, brilliant satin aluminum finish, capable of withstanding temperatures up to 1400° F. Great header paint or exhaust manifold paint Black Velvet is the only black paint capable of withstanding extreme temperatures up to 1200° F. http://www.prp-porstore.com/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=HiTemp

I just bought a bottle of POR15 Metal Reday and regular POR15 and it cost me about $50 from Youngs Automotive here in town (Port Colborne) It's not cheap stuff but it works good
