A few shops sell ABEC 3 Sealed SS bearings to replace the (very old) rubber bushings where the shifter cables link to the tranny...They look like the same bearings I could buy for my roller blades. I have also see brass inserts with C clips(very fancy= $$).
What's the difference? Do both work equally well at reducing shifter slop? I did a search and came up empty, hence the open ended question. Thanks.

And I have the brass insets with c-clips, also works great, 2.5 years and no problems....I think I paid like $15 shipped.
Just a note, I also installed the shifter plate bushings from MachV motorsports......also took a great deal of slop out of the shifter.

Thanks for the help. I wasn't sure if you could use bearings...I like the cost part.
