I have a 1GB TSI FWD with over 300K on original engine/turbo.
On the last fill of $50 I tried getting the most miles out of it, meaning coasting a lot and very little boosting. I drove on the highwae to Missy from Maple twice and the rest was my daily commute from Maple to Markham via HWY7, and random shopping trips in town. Anyway, I got 530 km out of $50 of [shame} regular gas, I don't boost anymore, since it hurts my pocket so much.
Anyways, what's the most you got?

My norm is usually right around 300 miles or just under 500km but that can defently vary.

I could get up as high as 700 if i wasn't beating on it. This was with a T04E, 10:1 CR 264s and 1050ccs. Of course, it could also be empty in less than 150 if i beat on it wink

Yeah, once upon a time, I had a good tune shuffle
$20 gets me less than 180km these days.
So I guess on a full tank that's only around 400km cry

I average 22 MPG city/hwy, with a best of 32.6 MPG. This is with a dead front O2 sensor for the past few years.

Scott gets a gold star for being the first to post in a comparable unit of measure. "Per tank" is dumb unless you're all filling up with exactly the same amount.

I average 25.4 MPG on my mostly highway drive these days, but can get closer to 30 MPG when traffic behaves I make a conscious effort.

The fueleconomy.gov site says we should be getting:

MPG (city) 21
MPG (highway) 27
MPG (combined) 24

All of our tanks are the same size.

MPG is best to compare between vehicles, but in our little discussion here I feel that per-tank is more useful.

Besides, MPG is equally dumb if you don't have a reliable/repeatable method to monitor how much of the fuel was consumed.
I know how you probably did it Jeff, but the general population is not going to be able to give you an accurate MPG figure anyways wink And we have to let them use the calculator! eek

Where's the L/100KM figures? Why do you hate metric? lol

Sure, the tanks may be the same size (not sure if that's true 1G vs. 2G actually), but our cars are notorious for having inaccurate fuel level senders. So one person's gauge hits E with 17 litres left, and another's low fuel light comes on with 5 litres left.

If the first guy gets 100 KM less "per tank" does that mean anything? smile

If you're going to do it, at least say how much fuel you typically fill up with when you're "empty". That might be a more interesting thread actually...

You're right, 2G has an extra gallon (or ~4 liters).

I'm a FWD, so my measure from top to bottom of the 60 liter tank is quite reliable. I'll use around 55L.
The way gas is priced these days, I'd be surprised if anyone is buying a full tank anymore anyways.

I don't think there's any way to get an accurate comparison unless we all go out with a full tank, drive 100km and fill it back up to the top.
Refer to previous sentence alien Not gonna happen.

Allow myself to correct, myself.
If I beat on it I'll get closer to 130, but if it's all highway it's closer to 180.
I re-did the math, and per tank I'm averaging closer to 500km/tank. I guess it's not so bad but I know I can do better smile

I always fill up 30 L (1/4 of the gauge) and it only lasts me 250km until I have to go put more gas in..

Yep.
It's especially bad for AWD, because of the baffled gas tank and the way Mitsu designed the senders to "work" with it.
You can actually search and find a lot of info on this topic.

In my FWD, on the gauge, half sweep in the middle is 1/3 tank, with the outer 1/4 sweeps each being 1/3 tank.

I'm only going to say this once: ditch the friggin' MPG! We use neither miles nor gallons in this country. If you insist on using MPG, you can cross the border and shout your answer across. Otherwise, it's litres and kilometres only. I'm issuing a command, a directive. It's not discussable. 'Nuff said.

Fill the tank. Check mileage or kilometrage for Paul at that fill and record it on your receipt. Drive. Fill tank. Record mileage or kilometrage for Paul at that fill. Repeat to get a reliable average. You now have the information to do the calculation.

mileage2 - mileage1=distance driven
amount of gas required at fill up #2 is how much fuel used

Tada!! An acurate measure of mpg or l/km ...for Paul smile

Having driven two talons from new and driving them for sales I would have to track this kinda info. My average mixed over 3 years was 24mpg for a new AWD on cars the way God or chrysler had delivered them.

You have to take into account how a young male would drive a new talon...boosting for any reason, first outta any stop light and exiting highway onramps at at least twice the posted ramp speed. Whenever these threads come up some smart ass throws out these big km numbers but mostly WrongWD'ers and people who cant do the math...excluding Nick the tuning bastard who got Echo mileage with a monster turbo.

My best strictly hiqhway was 600km on 59 litres which was a fill, enter highway, cruise control for 600km, stare at fuel light, then refill type drive.

How to convert MPG to liter per 100 km. smile

I wasn't able to find a similar converter for "Per tank" smile

What gallon is he using? The imperial gallon is about 20% larger than the US gallon (4.546 l vs. 3.785 l). In 1824, Britain adopted a close approximation to the ale gallon known as the Imperial gallon. The Imperial gallon is based on the volume of 10 pounds of distilled water weighed in air with the barometer standing at 30 inches and at a temperature of 62 degrees Fahrenheit (and in 1963 this definition was refined as the space occupied by 10 pounds of distilled water of density 0.998859 g/ml weighed in air of density 0.001217 g/ml against weights of density 8.136 g/ml). This works out at 277.41945 cubic inches.

The United States by this time, had already standardised on a close approximation to the old wine gallon. It was at one time defined as the volume of a cylinder 6 inches long and 7 inches in diameter, or 230.907 cubic inches. Today, however, the gallon is 231 cu. ins exactly. Thus 10 US gallons equals 8.327 Imperial gallons. The Imperial gallon is about a fifth larger than the US gallon.

I have ran almost 700km in my FWD on 1 tank of gas. Mostly highway, and haven't beat on it.

With the new AWD, I am avg. 450-600. I don't beat on the car much. And around here, it's not as stop and go as it is in the GTA.

The best I have ever gotten on my 2g AWD was 500kms. This was from Montreal coming down the 401 with cruise control on at 120km/h the whole way. If I remember right the gas light had just come on when I pulled off the highway and got gas. The car was bone stock at the time. I know the tank was right full too because when I filled up in Montreal I remember the pump didn't automatically shut off like it was supposed to and gas came spewing out. I would think that would be the best way to test how many kms to a tank of gas. It still seems like I should have gotten better mileage.

BTW I get about 300km out of a full 2G tank when the low fuel light comes on. I'm scared to calculate what the MPG is. wink

I am in the middle of checking mine and will let you all know. I am doing strickly city driving this tank (all roads 60 km/hr limit or less with lots of traffic lights). I'm just really curious how my current AEM EMS tune is on my fuel efficiency.

I just filled her right up to the brim and reset the trip odometer. When she is close to empty I will fill it back up to the brim and mark down how many litres it took to fill. I will just use that and the kms tracked to report back with a proper Canadian KM/L value smile.

Currently just about half the tank is gone (by the gauge) and I'm just shy of 200 kms.

KMs per tank would also vary widely based on how you drive. On our Vibe, it would take 4/5ths of a tank to drive from Sydney to Halifax at 110-120km/h. Last time I had to drive at 90km/h the whole way using cruise control to avoid ice in the wheel shaking the car apart. The 4 hour drive became 5 hours, but it only took just over 1/2 tank to do it...

My Talon usually averaged around 25mpg combined, driving easy with occasional fun. I'm not even going to ASK how Greg drives...

So let me get this straight. You fill up your tank with gas, measured in litres. You drive around and keep track of the distance using your odometer, which measures in kilometers. Why the heck are you converting to MPG when you already have your answer in L/100km?
smile

Just for the record. I average 10.5L/100km in city driving and just under 9.5L/100km in highway driving...and yes, I work it out everytime, for the last 10yrs, since I always go full-empty-full (too lazy to stop for gas more than necessary!)

I figure I am getting around 8.5-9L/100km in my 2GNT.. but I suppose that happens, being a NT car.

Hmm, i actually feel a lot better now.

From a full tank to half a tank, w/o boosting, it will last me 170 km or so. If im constantly boosting, i'd be lucky if i get 130 or so.

I've never tried filling up a tank and running it down to a 1/4. Im iffy about getting some gunk down the tank and have it run through my injectors and what not.

I almost forgot what 2nd and reverse gear feels like.

This why most DSM owners like me for have second cars, I had the DSM out this weekend, honestly it feels like its force feeding fuel in there instead of air, about 190-210 to a full up. cool

oh and my insurance rate ownes all of yours, and Im in mississauga so its suppose to be high. pay 65 bucks a month 1 way.

What's your mileage at Mosport Tashko?

Uh, I didn't pay attention. shocked

The only time I checked track consumption was in St. Eustache a couple of years ago. If memory serves, it was around 20L/100kms (maybe closer to 24L/100kms) and that was during a school so not 100% effort all the time.
I usually don't care at the track, just fill it up. The time I'd save from the lower weight is negligible to what I can make up by improving my driving. cry

I'll make sure to check this summer though, just to know the numbers for curiosity. I have to run at least 1/2 tank to avoid starvation in high G left turns anyway. puke

Pure city (no hiway at all) driving typically not conservatively (0 - 80 - 0 - 80...). I only got 317 kms on 48 litres. That's 6.6 kms/L or 15L/100kms.

I guess I have a little more tuning to do.

I got the best mileage (or Kilometerage) right after I replaced my fuel filter....That lasted for about 2 tankfuls of stellar L/100kms and then it settled back down.

Here's my question:

Just how "off" is the 2G AWD fuel gauge?
Every since I had my fuel pump replaced I have noticed the gauge is a little flaky and not representative of what is actually in the tank.
Nonetheless, I immediatly fill up when the light comes on, which can be anywhere from 390kms to 425. Theoretically, I could probably get more out of the tank if the general consensus can confirm that the guage is actually "off"
My light tends to "fade" on and off when it's nearing the end.

The rule of thumb I have used for determining when fuel is critical is: When the light comes on, but goes out when you go around corners or up and down inclines, you have a good amount left. When the light comes on bright and stays on, it's time to feed the beast.

Maybe I should pull a Kramer and see just how far it will go before choking out, but then I run the risk of getting some dumb ass in big black Escalade rear ending me on the commute as the Talon runs out of juice.

I want an RS4.

Easy it is to fill the tank when the light is on or the guage is at a certain point, and then remember how much gas you put in, compare it to the tank capacity. I mean subtract and you should be good to go laugh

well, word has it the New Evo will get "good fuel economy" because of the slick paddle shifting and MIVEC jazz.

"good" being relative, given it's a performance car.

In any case, I am sure it will yield better economy than the Talon (hopefully)

Regardless, I am getting one anyway, simply because I have to.

I have to say, for the power, I thought my Talon was one of the most economical cars to run. Especially considering it's performance.
