Does anyone know of any good places to get an alarm system? I'm starting to get sick of mine, so I think its time for a new one. I was at futureshop and I saw a viper alarm system there, I believe it's the Viper 350HV. Does anyone have any feedback on the viper systems or the installation work of futureshop?
If someone has an alaram system they are happy with and would reccomend, please let me know. Or if you want to make suggestions on another system, that would be great.

I currently have a "prestige" alarm that came with the car.

Thanks.

I have a Compustar 2 Way pager alarm, its great. Lots of nice features, lots of "sensors" you can buy extra for it. It is one of the best on the market (up there with viper etc.)
I have only had mine installed for a month, but I know people who have had it for a couple years (large group buy) and they were/are all happy with this alarm.

I have to agree with Murtaza. I have had my compustar for about 2 years now and had no problems. very pleased with it.

Can you guys point me in the direction of where I could get my hands on this Compustar system? How much does it retail for, and where would you recommend having it installed?

I'm in Niagara, so within a reasonable distance.

Thanks guys!

The one I have came from Futureshop. It was $299 new but I got it as a package deal with a bunch of other stuff second-hand. $299 is a bit ridiculous for an alarm.

I didn't think you could get a good 2 way alarm for under 400 bucks but I guess I'm wrong. Viper alarms are probably the best you'll need just make sure you get someone who is competent at setting it up. My alarm is overly sensitive right now and high winds shake the car just enough to set it off. I'm pretty sure you can buy alarms that have built in turbo timers as well, just a thought if you didn't already have one. If you get a 2 way alarm find out what range they are good for and make sure that they aren't over-exaggerating the distance just to try and sell it.

The Compustar has a few different brains.. one has a remote starter/turbo timer feature although mine doesn't have that. The remotes are universal across all the Compustar brains. I have the 2W8000FMR remote and CM3200 brain.

Viper and Clifford are the best alarm/starters available on the market.

The compustar's are ok but suck to install.

DON'T get futureshop to install anything!!

I worked at best buy for a while, and future shop is the worst place ever.

I can't even count the number of times we had people coming into my install bay with stuff that future shop installed and brought it to us because it didn't work.

I'm talkin everything from decks, to amps, car alarm's, and remote starts.

They do it as quickly as possible to get you out the door and don't care about the quality of the workmanship.

I'd suggest either a custom car shop, or a best buy for your install.

May look into contacting Nate Fullerton from this board, last summer he installed my 2-way pager alarm into my car, the insatll is top notch, very clean and he understands DSM's. he took his time to remove a previously installed crappy alarm and took the time to do it right this time.

I would think it's unfair to say Future Shop install sucks. Maybe your local Future Shop(s) don't do good work but that doesn't speak for all of them. The Peterborough Future Shop does unbelievable work and some pretty intense custom work.

I installed my Compustar alarm myself. I didn't find it to be more difficult than any of the other alarms I have installed. As long as you know which wires to tap into it's a piece of cake.. Just a pain having to get up under the dash! Removing the driver's seat makes it easier though.
