Does anyone in the GTA have a good air compressor for sale?
I need something by Monday.
Must be around 2.5 HP (running) or better.
Perfer oil-less.

I really like my Hot Rod compressor from Crappy Tire. Works great, light weight, and only cost 125 bucks on sale. Only problem is it's only 5 gallon, so any die grinding etc will suck up all your air quick. http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524443286301&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=1408474396672861&bmUID=1188529959028

A bigger tank won't help for die grinding...you need a larger flow rate on the compressor itself.

Yep, that's why I need that horespower on a "good" unit smile Nothing that crappy sells has enough SCFM for me, except the Coleman upright, but it's too much $$$ (and overkill).

I have the coleman upright, and it is really pretty good value for the dollar...of course, I need a fair bit more air than you do...

Sorry Ziggy, have to disagree. A larger tank will definetly mean longer die grinding sessions. The only thing the cfm will do is fill the tank faster.

You are mistaken. If you don't have the flow rate to keep up with the die grinder, you will empty any tank, even my 60 gallon in no time flat. You NEED the flow rate to be HIGHER than what you are using. The only REAL advantage to a larger tank is to let the air cool between when it is compressed and when it is used. The air drops its moisture when it cools. If you have too small a tank, you will get moisture into your compressed air, but it is still FLOW RATE that matters, NOT tank size!

It's true. The compressor flow has to keep up with the tool.
Otherwise, you run less than ideal pressure, and the motor gets over-worked (running constantly).
This is how I killed my CH 7gal in no time.

I just picked up a Porter-Cable 1.8HP 15gal.
It does 5.7 SCFM @ 90psi and 8.0 @ 40.
Not quite as much as I was hoping for, but it seems there is no such thing as a "mid-grade" compressor. At least it's brand new, so I have a warranty!

I also stopped at Princess Auto yesterday to see what they had, and I ended up walking out with a 230 volt MIG welder smile

Chances are you are going to be using at least 90 psi, so the 8.0 rating really doesn't really mean a thing...

That one 60gal 5hp on Craigslist there sounded like an incredible bargain!

What did the welder set you back? Did they have any just stick welders at good pricing??

$222.22 until they sell all of them.
I think it's the same one you can find on ebay for about the same price USD (plus shipping/duty).
It was the only welder on sale.
