Maybe a couple of you guys have had experience with this. I sent my x-box 360 away for repair alittle more than a month ago. After 3 phone calls to them later, I still haven't got it back. All they keep telling me is that it must be still at the repair centre. The "supervisor" I got on the phone last night told me that for whatever reason my x-box is taking longer to be returned to me than most. Have any of you guys had to send yours away for repairs? If so, how long until you got it back? Thanks.

I had to send mine in again Aug 21st. I just got it back last week. Thelast time I got it quickly... this time it was a month. I wonder if they are running short on refurb units to send back.

You will get a 1 month credit to Xbox Live though.

Hurray, that's $10 worth of xbox live tongue

I keep hearing about people's xbox breaking down. I guess I've just been lucky so far because I run mine a lot lately.

Just as long as it keeps working for Halo 3 which I'll be starting into tonight smile

To answer the question though, I had a friend that was without for over a month.

My xbox just hit the Ring of Death 2 nights ago. Problem began by first freezing during gameplay. Eventually, it got so bad, that I couldn't even get passed the dashboard.

I called Sunday night for the box to ship out, and am crossing my fingers that it doesn't take long, as this is BRUTAL timing for Halo 3.

I'm thinking about buying another 360 from Future Shop and returning it in 30 days, as I'm going through serious withdrawls.

I forgot to mention, Pat, you should ask to talk to a supervisor and complain, and you should be able to get a free game of your choice out of it.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I feel alittle better knowing that the common away time is about a month. Hopefully I should get it back soon. Pisses me off because todays actually my birthday and I was going to pick up a couple new games. It's not much fun going to grab a new game when you don't even have an x-box to play it on. Peter, funny you mention that. I got a supervisor on the phone last night and he offered me PGR3 and another game I've never heard of but I told him "what am I going to do with them without an x-box?" I was so pissed that I just told him to focus on getting me my x-box back.

Do they need a receipt for a warranty repair? I got my 360 used and it has trouble reading games some times..

To be honest, no games on 360 thats intriguing to me (except forza2/halo3/bioshock)...

I own a PS3 and have been super happy with it... and it doesnt get the red ring of death angel

Got a bunch of games and looking forward to a bunch more!

I don't care if you think its crap, if you think that, you need to play with one... always bad press, but a superb piece of equipment smile fully recommended

although my friends have them, including one whos gone through 3 360's... they usually took a week or two round trip including shipping...

I played Halo 3 for a couple hours tonight on my buddy's 360. I was going to go buy the system just for that but after hearing all these horror stories I think I'll wait for the next models to come out...hopefully bug free.
My original xbox is 4 years old, modded and I've never had any issues at all. Maybe you guys should try blowing into the system like we all used to do for Nintendo, see if that works!

I have the 360 Elite and the regular 1 and so far no problems what so ever. Ive had Halo 3 since last Thursday because it was leaked out on the net and I downloaded it demon, passed it on Saturday. Halo is overated, Gears of War is 10 times better in everyway.

Not everyone has issues... in fact the large majority don't. But once you have an issue you will likely have issues again since they send you back a refurb unit.

Problem with the 360 is that it gets to hot and the main board warps causing components to break off. The components are very lightly saudered on to save in the cost of labor and parts. I bought the intercooler for my 360 and it works fine, even after being on for hours at a time. Failure rate for the 360 is 1/3 of all units made up until the release of the elite. Do yourself a favour and get an elite if you are buying the system for the first time. The components are all epoxied on to the board so very little chance of them breaking off.

Also try and buy from EB Games as their extended warranty gives you a refurb right away, not having to wait for it to be returned by micro$oft. Sure it comes with a free 3 year warranty from micro$soft now but the waranty from EB cost maybe 40 bucks (i'm not sure on this) Just a thought and EB's warranty covers pretty much anything.

Im still waiting for the damn thing. I called x-box for the 5th time 3 days ago and talked to a supervisor that kind of sounded like he knew what he was doing. He told me that he's sending the service centre a message regarding my repair. WOW!!!! Sending them a message??? How about sending me my x-box!!! Everytime I call them it's like they just keep stringing me along. As you can tell, Im really pissed at all this. Im not mad that these over-priced electronics break down like crazy now-a-days. Im mad because when you have a customer service issue with these bigger companies it's like they're not prepared to deal with you nor have any idea what there talking about. Maybe one day I'll see my x-box again, but if for some reason I don't....after all the screaming and yelling is done, I'll buy a PS3.

A friend of mine sent his out for repair, went to finland for 2 weeks and it was at his house waiting for him when he got back. He bought a 3 year warranty through futureshop that was useless, so he went to EB games and there warranty is the best by far. You'd think by now they would have perfected the return as the company has lost tons of money over this situation.

Ive had to send mine back twice not because of the RROD, but because of Disc Read Errors. My current (third) unit looks to be running strong, finally.

Had another friend send his out today, numerous freezes then RRoD. Seems if you ever move your xbox from it's original spot it breaks. Mine hasn't moved since the day i got mine and it never freezes or anything.

It says right in the manual not to move it with a disc in there. Maybe that's causing some of the RROD problems.

Nope, every 360 now comes with a 3 year RRoD warranty and only RRoD. Apparently they won't fix it for free unless that's the problem. The RRoD that i'm referring to is the one with 3 lights (massive hardware failure), 4 light means your cables are messed up. Also, when they ask, and only if they ask tell them that the light on the power pack is GREEN when the system is on and you experience problems. If the power light is any other color than green, they will not fix your system for free.

Got my 360 launch day and so far so good. So they are not all defective. Of course it still could die who knows. Funny as the guy with the ps3 was saying there aren't many 360 games he likes or wants. I feel the same about current PS3 games. Very few sony has exclusive that I would buy a PS3 for. And have hd dvd already added it to 360 so the blu ray is not that big a feature either to me right now.
Now I have a ps2 also and an xbox but will tell you something. Sony is not what it used to be. There warranty service on my near top of the line projection sxrd 60inch was pathetic and after going thru months and months of hassles with sony finally got a refund from store I bought it from. Sony can kiss my ass!
I used to live and die sony. Almost everything in my house is sony.
So hoping the PS3 don't get any big problems down the road.
And have to add that currently Sony has no game that can touch Halo3 and resistance is not in the same league at all with Halo3.
Sonys main big name series were final fantasy, ace combat and socom. Ace Combat 6 is now on 360 not sure if its going to ps3.
Socom well not a huge deal and final fantasy is not my kind of game. Most other games are now multiplatform.

Sony needs some serious exclusive games and it needs them soon.
I will eventually get a ps3 although hear it dont' even make the older ps2 games look better?? 360 does make earlier xbox games look better. And Halo1 and halo2 are two of the best of the best on xbox.

Is Call of Duty 4 for the PS3? That game rivals Halo 3 apparently.

Different games hard to compare the two.

From the review I read I might be disappointed with COD4. Apparantly there is more emphasis on non-stop action vs. realism. I was hoping they'd take a step towards the realism of GRAW at the same time as trying to catch up graphics wise. Sounds like it will play very much like the rest of the COD games but just look way better. I hope that's wrong.

I really wish every FPS would have a 'just behind the player' view like GRAW and Gears because I get motion sickness playing FPS shooters on my TV. COD2 and 3 as well as Bioshock give me some degree of motion sickness. I wonder if Halo will too.

Halo is good but I found it fairly easy. Too many checkpoints so when you die, you start out almost exactly where you bit it. It may be different on Legendary as I havent tried that difficulty yet.

My main gripe for Halo, or should I say the 360 in general is the lack of support for a mouse/keyboard combination. I used that combo for Socom 1&2 on the PS2 and it was great. No matter how good you are, you cant match that kind of precision using the dual analogs.

Yes COD4 is on PS3 aswell.
The game kicks ass!! I had the online beta and I loved it. But if your not a fan of COD2 you will not enjoy it as much.

Stupid xbox is right. I can't even load the dashboard right now. It freezes on load up, and I tried to get the RRoD but it just wont. Works every now and then, but then it just freezes. Guess my luck has finally run out with this system, and I get to make the wonderfull call to xbox tech support.

Keep trying... the ring might yet still come. Mine froze for a couple days the second time before the RROD came up.

COD4 kicks ass. I beat it on Hardened and am making my way through on Vetran now. The first level I did on Vetran was the sniper level... lots of fun. Now I am stuck in the damn tv station.

Online my rank is currently 55 but I'll be going to prestige I since 3x frag grenade is making getting kills a little too easy wink.

I experienced the RROD about a month back, turned the system off right away and it's been fine since. Until the other day, it just had periodic freezes when trying to use media player. Now it won't do sh!t, just freezes on startup. *Sigh*

Xbox sucks.... such a buggy console, software sucks, hardware sucks....
I like the controller.. rest of it was a bad mistake.

In counter-point,

I've had no real bugs.
I love the 'blades'.
LOVE the xVid/DivX interface to Windows Media Player on my PC.

The rest is in the games.
They look great, and are a ton of fun.

Ahh yeah, I got to give credit to the 360 for its media center capabilities.. when you have trasncode360 installed on PC, its perfect.. Only thing we use the craptacular console for now.

Only problem i had up until now was having to pay for an online service. It's a free service for ps3 owners, whose online user database just hit 1 million. Its a far cry from Lives 12 or so million but its free. I understand that things cost money to make things better but I'm just not sure how ps3's system is free. Is it really that terrible that they have to give it away?
