Hi guys/gal,

I was going to help my friend do a brake job on his 02 neon. I wanted to know if anyone has done one, and if theres a heads up for anything.

I've done disc brakes on vans and other cars and feel pretty comfortable doing that.

Anything to add to my following short-list in my head? :

-Wheel off
-Bolt out of caliper
-Swing caliper up
-knock pads out
-loosen bleeder screw
-compress caliper piston with c-clamp
-new pads in
-caliper back on rotor
-wheel on

Thank you guys... appreciate your heads up info

That's usually about it. It's only when you get into cars that use non-standard bolts (European) or exotic rear-caliper setups that things get 'out of the ordinary'.

I can't believe I used to let working on brakes intimidate me.

Depending on the condition:

- Wire brush calipers and shim.
- Anti-Squeal Shims.

....

- Seat Pads by Quick, Heavy Braking.

The moment a turbo spools, all your dreams are made possible.

Why would you loosen the bleeder screw. I've never done that in my life.

If you break it loose each time you change the pads, chances are better that it won't be seized up when you NEED to loosen it.

Good tip, never thought of it that way, just always avoided it because I never wanted to bleed the brakes if I was in a hurry. I imagine if your just turn it a little bit it won't let air in.

I may be mistaken but when you work on someones brakes, could you not be held liable if something where to fail because of your workmanship, I know they sell them for do it yourselfer's but..

I do my own brakes, families, and the GF's, but I don't think they will go after me for it.

I never open the bleeder screws just crack them so they will work. I just remove the brake fliud resorvior cap & force the piston back in the bore before I remove the caliper making sure the resorvior dosn't overflow.

Glad you knew why I do it tongue

I was only 'instructing my friend' on how to do his brakes. He tightened all the bolts after I did. tongue

Nathan, your original post pretty much sums up what I did for my friend's Neon, too. You missed the part where you knock off the old discs with a sledge, though. wink

He's had his new discs and pads for a long time and they're still holding up. tu
