I see a lot of people parting out their cars.

1. I'm assuming they call a wrecker like Standard Auto who comes and picks up the remains afterwards?
2. Do you pay them, or do they pay you?
3. How much can you strip off a car that the wreckers will still take? Eg. wheels, axles, etc.

Just curious. Not foreshadowing. smile

Geez, I hope it doesn't come to that, Tin!

When I stripped and sold my 91 TSi, I had to PAY $50 for the wrecker to come pick it up as it wasn't worth it's weight in scrap metal since everything had been removed from the shell.

I parted out a 1g over the last month. Car is sitting in my driveway now waiting to be picked up.

From what I've been reading.. you want to stay away from 'companies' who respond to emails from a blackberry/iphone etc as they will rip you off. I don't see how, if they give you cash.. but that's just what I've read.

I called a company called 'Scrap my Junk car' and they didn't offer me any cash for it even though it was just missing the whole interior and rear bumper. He said the car has to be complete for you to receive cash for it, at least from them.

To save a BIG hassle make sure the car can roll at least on 2 wheels and you should fine someone to give you $50 for it.

Part outs take a lot of time and resources. Know what your getting into before you do one.

I'm having a hard time finding a place which will offer cash for it - even though all the ads say "TOP CASH PAID FOR JUNK CARS" lol

Your best bet is get a reciprotating saw or a big gas powered cutoff saw and cut it into a few pieces. Pile it into the back of a pickup truck and take it to a scrap metal dealer.

1- You get rid of it quick
2- You actually DO get top dollar for it
3- It's a LOT of fun

Took about an hour to cut a lebaron coupe into 6 pieces with a reciprocating saw. I have a big gas saw now, it would have been way more fun. I got about $90 for the scrap metal weight, and that was about 5-6 years ago.

Nick's neighbors are so cool and laid back! rotflmao

Anyhow, I don't think they will charge you to remove it, in any condition, so long as it's not a pain to get on the wrecker & transport.
I've had a few fairly molested cars go and always got some money, between $25 and $250.

With no motor or trans, MegaCity picked up my old shell, no money was given or received.

When I parted my 1G, it had nothing left but 4 tires and glass, some of the interior, nothing in the engine bay (I regret not pulling the wiring harness now too).

Took it for free, I didn't see anything. If you want cash for your car, you pretty much need to call and say "I put a rod through the block, pick it up please."

I sent a Talon AWD to the wrecker last year for scrap metal; no drivetrain, no brakes, no fuel.. but virtually everything else. Full interior.

Got $100 and they picked it up for me. Sadly, it was crushed within a week... I realized later that I could have used some more parts off of it frown

Damn, it looks like I'm the only one who's actually had to pay for it to be taken away.

In fairness there was literally nothing left of the car, not even glass.

On my old 91 Civic I had, seized bearings, no exhaust, motor blown (burnt valve, blown headgasket, seized alternator) and steel visable through the rubber on the tires; they came and took my car, gave $50 for it. Just a small local place though.

They should pay you for it based on its weight. These guys make money off the steel which is way down right now.

At one time before the economy came down you could 400+ for a car for scrap.
