I have a great deal to offer you guys. CNC machined Heat Barrier intake manifold gaskets. The gaskets are made of a 1/8 inch thick synthetic plastic material which is very high heat resistant and soft enough to ensure a proper seal. The material is a very poor conductor of heat, therefore greatly reducing heat transfer between cylinder head and intake manifold. For fact, every 3.3 °C (5° F) rise in intake temperature, air density drops 1%. To put this into prospective, you can expect horsepower gains anywhere from 3-5% and temperature drops have been logged up to 30c. These gaskets greatly reduce intake charge temperatures while suppressing knock = more Pump Gas horsepower at higher boost levels. These make a great replacement of your old intake manifold gasket. Or, for your new build as spring is rapidly approaching!

Just wanted to add, I installed one of these with my evoIII intake mani last spring & while I don't have back to back logs to compare data I can say that it defently insulated the intake from engine heat. After going for a drive the intake mani was defently much cooler to the touch then previously with the stock gasket. So they do work!

Just curious, but are you supposed to use gaskets with these? I had one on my car last season without any gaskets and it leaked like crazy - so much I had to take it off.

Thin coat of RTV - Any recommendations on the spray types?

A thin coat of RTV, as well as making sure both surfaces are clean will ensure a good seal.

Greg, some other gaskets on the market are made of a different material, which have been common for leaks.

I used copper spray on mine, both sides, has held 30psi no problem.

I copper spray every gasket I put on my car (all my cars) and I've never had a leak after doing so. It good stuff and not messy like RTV.

I don't think all these are made the same. I got one from Magnus a couple of years ago. I have had it on and off about four times now and never put any extra sealing on it. I pressure test often to 40 psi and run 30 psi all the time with no leaks at all. Others also have had little problems with reputable manufactures. If you need a gasket for these I am curious who makes them before I put my name in. In case the question comes up of why do I need another one, it is because I am building a second car for just racing at the moment.

These gaskets are made of the same quality as Magnus` gasket. I have ran it on my own car last year at over 30 psi, no leaks.

I think there is probably some confusion, because people refer to these as "phenolic" spacers. "Phenolic" is EXCELLENT for insulating, but VERY hard, and NOT pliable, so you end up needing to use a gasket with them. Phenolic is a "layered" material, I have usually seen it in brown. The ones magnus and others (including myself as soon as I get some time) make are NOT phenolic, but a slightly softer plastic. Not QUITE as good as phenolic for resisting the heat, but has enough give to seal without a gasket. I am guessing these are probably made of UHMW??

I had assumed these were made out of Acetal.

Depending on your underhood conditions, UHMW polyethylene has low temperature properties and will creep worse than Acetal. It has a softening temperature around 60C I believe. I was seeing -manifold- air temps between 60-70C on hot summer days at the track. I would expect to need to re-torque the manifold bolts after some time. I haven't taken the time yet to calculate the clamping load on the 'gasket' to see if it's an issue or not. It would be nice to get away with using UHMW or similar low cost plastic.

I'm making two different 'gaskets', one out of Phenolic and another out of Acetal.

BTW, the material cost for Phenolic and Acetal is about 5x that of UHMW.

Also, why do you guys care so much about putting gaskets in? How often do you take your manifolds off? Put a gasket on either side of the 'barrier' and be done with it. Sometimes it's not worth being cheap.

I just installed my magnus intake on tuesday and I'm definitely going to agree that its made from Acetal. It working temperature is max about 90C which is plenty for it application. I wouldn't make it out UHMW. I'd stick to Acetal or Phenolic

I doubt clamping load on any of these materials to be an issue. I've seen some 4g63 made from Phenolic, people used to mistake them for wood

I believe UHMW is good to about 110degrees, and I believe it is what Magnus uses..am I wrong??

UHMW PE: Heat deflection of 120F/49C at 264psi and 160F/71C at 66psi.

Although there are higher heat variants out there.

The Gasket is made of UHMW. The exact same Material as Magnus and Hondata uses.

i already put these in. the intake manifold is significantly cooler. After a long drive, the manifold top is only luke warm to the touch as opposed to barely able to keep my hand on it for long before my hand burns.

Have yet to do a boost-leak test (will be putting a FMIC in soon, boost leak test then). Copper RTV on both sides of the gasket so I'm not too worried.

as for set-up, everything is stock except for the 14b turbo on a 2g.

It's a thermal break much like those in high efficiency glazing (windows) for buildings. It definitely makes a difference.
