Hey so I just finished installing a 14b into my 2g and now I'm hitting 20psi without any boost controller...

Mods are..

Dave Brode upper i/c pipe
crushed 1g bov
14b (ported to hell)
eprom (stock chip)
full intake

Now I'm pretty new to modding but I definitely don't think that is right.

Maybe a wastegate issue? Any ideas?

Thanks

Steve

My car had the same issue, Im sure there could be many causes though. My car had the vaccum lines routed all wrong. Like a boost controller was put in, then removed and the lines were just stuck back together.

yes my wastegate is hooked up, and Mike I wouldn't rule that out one bit. I'll have to go over all my lines again.

the wastegate was really stuck when I was putting the turbo on and i had to clean it a but and use a compressor to get it going again.. could that be an issue?

it could be sticking closed, which would allow for uncontrolable or at least very high boost.

hmm should I look at getting another wastegate from a 14b/16g?

It seems like its a pretty hard thing to get loose from the turbo as the bolts probably see extreme heat

Supply pressure to the wastegate actuator nipple and see if it swings the wastegate flapper arm towards the driver side.
If it does, then your problem is in the signal line to that nipple (it's not getting full boost signal).
If it does not, then your problem is the wastegate actuator or the wastegate itself is stuck.

lol

Actually I had forgot to put the T in a line from the wastegate to the j-pipe to the boost pressure solenoid, But once I noticed this I just went ahead and installed the boost controller and took the solenoid out of the picture.

I guess mike put me in the right direction

Thanks

Steve

Exatly what I did when I put my 16g in, I thought it was faster, then decided to put in a bost gauge, and discovered what was up lol.

Lol Glad I was of help. I was reaching almost 20 psi after my BOV was replaced. Car was walking sideways in the rain shocked
ATM Im running stock boost. I forget what we did, I think the solenoid is disconnected at one side and the line capped off, so its just the wastegate controlling boost?
