I have a 1998 Talon 2GB and i've had a motor swap done to it a while back but recently my alternator just stopped working properly... so i relplaced it but while replacing it i saw that there are some wiring issues with my setup...

the car runs but doesn't charge from alternator, i've heard that i should replace my ecu, i've heard that i should check all my grounds and i plan on doing those things next but for now i want to sort out the wiring...

Right now the wiring harness that leads to the alternator has a pair of wires that are not connected to anything!!!

i'm not sure if anyone knows this off hand but i was hoping someone could help me learn what goes where...

from the wire loom i see

Two large white wires
four wires leading to the alternator harness clip
one wire leading to the power steering pump

the other ones are what are puzzling me....
I'm not sure what they are for and where to connect them...

i believe that one goes to my oil pressure sensor and the other has me puzzled....

HELP PLEASE!!!

anyone?

oh by the way i have a new and tested 90 amp alternator and an optima yellow top battery as well as 4 gauge wire running from the alternator to the battery with a 100 amp fuse in line along side of the stock wiring.

so i highly doubt that there is any issue with the conductivity

can you post a picture of the alternator? in the car as it looks right now. I bet something just isn't hooked up.

i will take one tonight... but everything but two wires are all going where they seem to go.. but if you can tell me where all your wires from that harness go then by process of elimination i can find if there is an issue there....

basically the alternator only has the two larger white wires going to it's main pole and the four wire connector attached to it... do one of the other wires from that grouping of wires go to the alternator?

Thats sounds right, the power wires are the two white ones and then there is one connector that has 4 wires attacked to it.

Unplug the 4 wire connector and clean the connections and plug it in really good. Sometimes a bad connection here will stop it from working.

Also check your fuse box. It's quite possible that the 100amp fuse is no good. Even if it looks ok, install another one.

I think both of the wires are for oil pressure, there's normally two sensors.

Did you check if there is power at the big positive on the alternator?
If not, make sure all the wiring is good, and note the alternator must have its own very good ground (mainly via the bracket it mounts to).
Late 2G I think also is ECU controlled.

If you're getting ~13.5 - ~14.5 on that peg, trace it back to the battery and fix wherever the problem is.

Good luck!

the wires on my car look more broken than disconnected as there are no endings on them... and there is another peice of wire hanging from my oil sender... so i'm sure one goes to that but which, and what does the other one do?...

one is yellow with a red stripe, the other is brown

One is for the oil pressure sending unit, which is the big canister on your oil filter housing (facing down).
The other one is for the oil pressure switch, which is the small canister (facing forward).
Turn the power on and ground each of those wires. The oil pressure switch wire will turn your low oil light on when grounded.

ok so neither of those has to do with the alternator... THANK YOU!!!

next question...
if that's not the issue and all the wires are ok would everyone agree that the next step is an ECU swap?

i've already got a 1996 ecu all i have to do is find out which wires need to be switched.. some people say it's just the plug wires switched 1-2 and 3-4 but others say i need to mess with the CAS wires on the ecu....

any one here know the truth?

I wouldn't jump right into swapping the ECU.
There's probably even a way to get the charge going without any ECU connection.
