TRE hands down. You pay for the shep name.
Right. And the fact that one of the pioneers in the DSM world, the fastest guy running the OEM transmission case is working on it with his own hands means nothing? It's not like he's sending the stuff out to China to get rebuilt. Shep knows these tranny's like the back of his hand. I'd lean towards him, but TRE's stuff is good too.

I put in a TRE 2 years ago. It's worked great for me.
Actually Paul S and I drove down to Michagen to pick up the tranny. Met John, and saw his shop. I found him to be a bit short on the phone, but pretty good in person. He also seemed to know his stuff.

I always love when people say "seemed to know his stuff" or "they really know their stuff". If they are a tranny shop and they don't know their stuff, then you should stay away.
I'd go Shep, his car and his knowledge is enough to get my money.

I have a jacks transmission ... well the parts atleast, in my current trans. I never said that shep does know what he is doing but go on his site and compare prices for the exact same parts that you can buy at tre or jacks as opposed to shep. Jack's transmission is awesome too for ordering DIY parts as well as top notch customer service.

Tim, I hope you weren't referring to me. I never compared shops, I was just defending a personal friends' shop. I'm not some kid who likes to toss names around. The comment was TRE or Shep, and as I said, agreeing with you, both shops have quality products.
Dave, I know Shep's prices pretty well, I'm his webmaster. You get a fair shake of new parts in areas where others may reuse parts that are within spec. If you want to compare, call and ask John and Jack what's new, and what's reused, and then compare. John is actually $150 cheaper on his premium tranny vs. Jacks, so I'm not seeing the same thing you are.
Spend your money where you feel comfortable doing so. I just hired some contractors to work on my house. I didn't go with the cheapest guy, because I wasn't confident that I would be problem free. Do the same when you're picking your rebuilder.
