Hello All.
I accidentally broken 1 of the bolt holding the intermediate shaft in the block. Only 1 bolt holding it now but does not look too strong.
Drill will not fit at the back in order to use the extractor kit.
Do you guys have any suggestion short of pulling the engine out?

Hoping that nothing breaks this summer.

Right angle drill might fit.

If it broke off in the AC bracket hole, take off the bracket. The broken bit of it should still be hanging loose in its threads if your lucky.

At least thats what happened to me, and I was able to spin it loose with a small screw driver.

Damn, i am really not in luck.
It broke flush in the block. I will try the right angle drill, worse case, I will pull the intake manifold to get a clear view of the broken bolt.
Also, i am not planing on reinstalling the a/c braket when i put it back in, can I just use some washers to compensate for the gap?

I usually just cut the small corner of the AC bracket off, and use that. There is actually a Mitsu part # for that spacer.

It may have broken off flush in the block, but take a closer look at it, it may be loose in its threads. If so, it should be easy to take out.

Did you get it out. I have same exact problem .I did buy a right angle drill awhile ago at canadian tire. I also found some shorty bits they sell there and thing at the worst just loosen up engine mounts maybe back and front and should be able to get more clearance. Think also make a bit of sleeve/guide to make sure hit center of the broken bolt. Don't suppose there is any glue or metal weld stuff that can simply let you stick a good bolt onto the broken one and turn it out?

Easyout hopefully will get the job done. The bolt is not sticking out.Other idea was to maybe drill it out or if can drill it far enough down put in a stud and use a nut.
See how it goes in next few days. Don't feel good about having only the one bolt on there.

I didn't do it yet but I am gathering all the tools, I have also purchased the right angle drill from Canadian tire, drill set and easy out.
Mine wasnt flush, about 2 mm in, so what I have done is fill the hole with some JB weld in the meantime, I am hoping that it will help me guide the drill bit dead center.
I should have it done before the week is over, i will update you on how it goes.

Hoping that nothing breaks this summer.

I used a stack of flat washers until I picked up a Jayracing alternator relocation kit.

update,
I was finally able to pull the broken bolt out, the 90 degree drill didnt work, not enought room.
In order to get the job done, I used a nail and tapped the broken bit inside in circular motion till it comes out.
It's a very long process and I hope to never have to do this again.

Hoping that nothing breaks this summer.

I too have a broken bolt in the same spot. I have yet to tackle it, winter project. I forgot that there needs to be a spacer on the left bolt and I overtightened and twisted it off. I was hoping I could sneak a right angle drill in there. Sounds like I got more work to do. Dang!!

When you break a bolt off in that location it is easily removable if you have a little patience. The broken piece never bottoms out so it basically just needs to be worked out, like Francis did.
