Ok, I want a fast talon, who doesn't! I was saving up for a 1998 TSI AWD but figure that I will just upgrade my '92 TSI AWD. I have spoken with Steve and Marco from Magnusmotorsports about the 2.4L and the 2.14L. I am soon to have a package price for an upgrade to my talon with around 400-450 whp . I know the 2.14L revs higher (9,000 rpm redline?) but the 2.4L provides more torque. Of course I want to be sure that I am getting a fair deal. I hear that there is other engine shops around the GTA who also work on Talons as seen not only on the Bulletin Board but also on the Speed Shops page. (What an excellent resource this site is!!) Does anyone have experience with another engine shop? Any input on this subject would GREATLY be appreciated!

Get the price. A little over budget from Magnus, not bad though: $11,750. 2.4L bottom end Head work porting Magnus intake manifold water pump, all belts T04 Turbo, manifold, external waste gate FMIC, bigger IC pipes Fuel Pump Injectors Fuel management, lines Mass air modifications Labour 450 whp daily driver. Big 16G is $1,300 cheaper so that brings me in on budget but it's only good for 350-375 whp. And for $1,300 I feel the extra 75 whp is worth it. Please let me know your thoughs, am I crazy

If you DO want to drop that much cash on an engine, and you DO want a 450hp daily driver, I fail to see how you could go wrong with a reputable shop like Magnus. Hell, if you're going big, you might as well go big right! (BTW, don't forget the non-engine bitties in your upgrade. 450hp on a 11 year old suspension might be a good way to meet a tree or a light pole )

Please let me know your thoughs, am I crazy I'll tell you right off the bat that 11,7 is a good price for all that stuff... especially considering labour is included! I basically have all the stuff that you listed, except I pieced my stuff together from different places and did my own work. The numbers still came up pretty high. However, you're selling yourself short (big time!) if you use a big 16g on a built 2.4L and still end up spending 10 grand... there are other alternatives though. You could always get a T4/T3 and buy an adapter plate for it from Hahn Racecraft. You'll save at least 400 there by deleting the aftermarket exhaust manifold... plus you can get the t3t4 internally gated, so theres another 500 saved on an external wastegate. If you tell Marco that you can't afford that extra $1500, Im sure he'd come up with a similar solution... just as long as you dont end up with a 16g

The price sounds good to me, if you really want to spend that much in one go...on a car. I know this board is for us DSM enthusiasts, but I still don't understand spending that much money to have a car that is such high maintenance. Who needs 450WHP for the street? If you're going after bragging rights, then by all means go for it or going racing for competition and prizes, I understand. Ask yourself if you want to spend that much on a motor. $10000. That would pay off ALL my tuition. To each his own, I think that would be a good price. I also think that spending half that would get you just as happy, if not happier, for the easier maintenance and upkeep. Ever been in a 300BHP car? It's plenty fast for the street. I suggest you start with small things like a 20G, a FMIC, injectors, Fuel management, BOV and see how you like that. Then see if you WANT to go all out. my .02

Go Talon or Go Home is my motto! It's all about the speed and the ability to beat kids in Dodge Caravans who think that they own the road. Realistically, if the car is in great shape, and you plan to keep it a while, JUST DO IT. And if you're going all out, you have to show that you're the man. Get some detailing so that people know who you are in Durham! Curious though, is a car like that suitable to drive all the time, or just for summer use when you're cruising? Hail to the mighty Talon of Speed.

Ronnie, you bring up an excellent point. Growing is half the fun. I have been in more then a couple 300+hp cars on the street and it is with out a doubt a blast... Ever been in a Viper? Now that is a RUSH! Steve Rode wrote: Get some detailing so that people know who you are in Durham! Steve, remember I have the Mullet , is that not detailing enough? Either way here is the beginning of the "build your own" which I am also considering: Fuel system $1250 - 660cc, fuel pump, AFC Turbo system $2000 - BR580, internal wastegate Engine system $850 - Water pump, belts Exhaust system $1300 - 3" downpipe, 3" exhaust without the coffee can tip And my mission continues... thanks for the input, very valuable

So Baron, What is the latest on the repair of your chariot?!? I am very serious in my offer for my engine should I have mine replaced. Have you gotten any quotes back? I know that you can get a performance 2.0L built with higher stock HP ~15 - 20HP more for around 2k. Let me know, and you know it's in the BBN book of rules to kick until submission Also are you serious about learning standard ? If so you can learn in mine AND I have the boost back up to 20PSI so it's quite a ride. (Not too concerned about the clutch, it has a 2 year warranty ) Give me a shout later on....

Peter, you are a scholar and a gentleman! I greatly appreciate the offer and would be very excited to work with another fanatic on my car! But here is the latest... Some may frown... I have the Talon in the shop (CTC, I know I know but the price is reasonable and I know the service manager). Getting the timing belt, water pump, and all other belts replaced. Poor story but I had to get it towed there from north of Brooklin (CAA). Either way a friend told me that there was someone in Whitby who was needing to sell their car and if I was interested go have a look. So being interested I did. Well it is a '98 Mustang GT with all the bells and whistles, low milage, and a 5 speed. The original asking price was $15,000. Now he was asking $12,500. We (my fiance and I) took it out for a spin. I was surprised that it had some punch to it but also shocked that with what little work I have done to my Talon I honestly believe that the Talon is faster. But, needing a more reliable car and one with WORKING air conditioning I made an insulting offer of $9,500. Needless to say I was shocked when I received a call accepting my offer! Tomorrow I hit the DMV and get the plates. So I now have a new plan. Park the Talon for a while and build it up over time while I put the miles on the mustang. Just an fyi, the Talon is a MUCH nicer ride. I feel it has a better seating position, much better looks, and sh!t.. it's AWD and the turbo sound is sooo cool. Knowing me I will flip the mustang for a profit and put that profit into my second love the Talon. (Of course my first is the fiance.... hi honey if you read this ....)

Coming from the original Mustang Boy. That 88 Stang was not a bad piece of work that you had, Brady. It's too bad you never had a chance those days to race the Talon. Now, where's my Cuda...

Brady, that is an incredible price you got that ride for. Unfortunately, you bought the slowest of all the V8 mustangs available. Hopefully you make that profit.

I bought my LeBaron from Super 7 lottery winnings. I was going to supe up my '84 K car, but decided against the sheer silliness of that. My LeBaron never talked, but its been through more campaigns than I care to admit! Great winter beater and grocery getter. Plus, fitting 9 people into a Talon just ain't happening...I wonder if you remember that Brady? Those Siren runs were popular!

No,
The ship of fools had to be the three amps in the Reliant K, with those huge box speakers in the back that Mike used to hang out the window.
