there's no car audio forum here, so I guess I will post here

I was looking at this Pioneer in-dash GPS w/ blue tooth that's on sale for $549

I'd like to get your input on it

The features that appeal to me are:

Detachable faceplate
Bluetooth connectivity w/ your phone for hands free operation (unit comes with a small mic)
Built in GPS
Ipod interface
It doesn't play video but I don't intend to use that feature even if I have it so that doesn't deter me.

Things that I am not sure of:

How garbled, muffled would I sound on the phone with a 3" exhaust? My car's not loud, but it does have a nice "humm" on the highway .. some may call it a "droning" sound

Detachable face feature is great, but only the screen is detachable, and the round vol knob is still intact which may still cause a break-in

anyhow... what are your thoughts, experiences with similar setups?

Thanks

When I was looking for a set up like that for my car I went to the store and found one that was actually on and I played around with the features, it really gives you a better idea if you would like it or not.

I have the AVIC-F500BT which I'm yet to mount in my G8. It's essecially an XP box which makes it hackable (video-in-motion, etc). Being an "older" model (with no CD), these are dirt cheap in the states. I think I paid USD$210 with the iPod cable and a 4ch amp (on 6save.com).

check out www.avic411.com
and this thread.

I bought a 3rd party plug-n-play harness for mine which allows integration with the factory stereo. Check if your unit has a provision for an external mic, I suspect that would help a lot with the quality of your voice if you can hang it on your visor.
