My buddy has two talons on storage (97 & 95)and we needed to move them. He boosted the '97 it started and idled fine, unhooked the booster pull the car out of the parking spot and it stalls. Re-boosts the car and now the interior light, stereo and some other odd electrical stuff doesn't work AND the engine only runs on 2 cylinder.

Now...I picked up the '95 today and boosted it and let it idle for a few minutes because the battery was completely dead (when I unhooked the boost the car quit). After a few minutes I could unhook the booster. The car ran fine for about 30 seconds...then...the wipers came on (on thier own) and the lights got really bright...then...it quit. I boosted it again and it runs ok but doesn't idle as good as it did before the electrical freak out....AND you can smell burning inside the cockpit.

My guess is that BOTH batteries are completely effed and removing the booster from either car caused the an electrical backup throughout the system and baked the ECU (the smell in the cockpit). Has anyone had experience like this??

Thanks,

Rick

It is never a good idea to let an older alternator try and charge a completely dead battery.

yep, charge the batteries first. Alternator can't charge very well at idle.
