Just a quick question about making a court appearance. Do you have to go into the court house to make an appointment for a meeting with the JP or can I call it in?

I really dont feel like taking half a day off work and drive an hour and a bit just to make an appointment.

In my experience, if you go in to plead "guilty with an explanation" then you sit in line and wait to talk to the JP.

The only time I did this was at least 7 years ago though.

What are you doing?

- setting a trial date?
- showing up for your court date?

Probably first appearance after your ticket (if you chose to set trial). If not then I guess you selected guilty with explanation.

Either way, when I went in 4 years ago I talked to the prosecutor (not JP) because I asked to do so. He dropped one ticket completely, lowered the speeding so there was no points and gave me over 6 months to pay because I was in school at the time. All I had to do was plead guilty to a voice recorder in his office with another courthouse person as witness.

I've also made deals directly with the cop before going into the courtroom for trial, because they want to get out of there. IMO take the day off work and get it cleared away. I told the cop in this case I was well prepared to challenge his evidence and he immediately wanted to make a deal to avoid this.

Or bite the bullet and pay it because according to insurance a ticket is a ticket so whats the point of fighting it unless you have too many points.

Just like the guys above said, you have to go to the court house and make an appointment.

Once you've done that they'll give you a trial date.

Show up and talk to the prosecutor before hand and they'll usually do something for you.

As for the option, I believe it's option 4, if I'm not mistaken.

If it's for speeding fight it to the end and try to get it off, because insurance companies take into account any and all speeding tickets and other traffic offenses even if no points are issued.

Sorry about the delay in replying.

I got charged with driving without a license, since my license was expired. A couple years ago I went to fight a couple tickets. I went and met with some guy in the office and he asked me about it, and he dropped one ticket and lowered another. I believe the lady refered to it as a First apearance. Anyway, what I was wondering is if i could call and schedual an apointment, or if i had to physically go into the office and schedual one.

I recently got an Accord, and went into the MTO and payed everythign to transfer it into my name, like the taxes and what not. During this process the lady swiped my license and told me that it was expired and had to be renewed and i needed a picture. So I got my picture taken. Then came time to pay for everything, the total was around $500 and something. It turns out she just took my picture, and didnt renew my license. So I was driving with out a license for a while without knowing it.

That's rough.

Without proof you wouldn't be able to hold your own in court.

Maybe plead your case if you had a clean driving record before that?

I mean I'm sure they'd understand, since these kinds of mistakes do happen.

OH, forgot, show them the receipt you have from the transaction and papers you must've gotten from the time of 'renewal'
