Not sure to be honest, it came with a parts car I got this summer. Some people that came by to see other parts were able to tell from the welds etc, but its a nice solid part with no cracks.

They are normally made of stainless, but I don't know if that has some kind of coating on it? I would think the coating could be ground away if needed to be for welding. Mild steel CAN be welded to stainless steel, as long as you use stainless rod or wire. That being said, I would THINK that mild steel could even be welded to mild steel with stainless rod or wire, so you would PROBABLY be safe welding either mild steel or stainless steel to it with stainless rod or wire..
