Looks like Suncor is killing its Sunoco retail outlets across Ontario. Kiss that sweet sweet 94 octane juice goodbye.

Actually Husky bought up all the sunocos. So you will be seeing those in place of it.

Petro Canada In Montreal has 94, so i would assume they would maybe start offerring it in ontario. When i used it, i did not have to change my tune.

Wrong. Suncor corporation purchased Petro Canada gas stations, under the agreement that all Sunoco stations changed their name to Petro Canada.

Petro Linky

same information as above link, from Sunoco website Sunoco linky

It's both, if you read the article Nigel posted.

Approximately 100 retail sites will be sold in April, 2010 while the remaining sites will be re-branded under the Petro-Canada banner with different operators. All 300 current Sunoco retailers will be terminated in the process.

I guess my only real questions are; will I be able to get 94 octane and what's going to happen to my points?

I had a feeling this was coming... A few Sunocos in my area have already switched to Petro over the last month. So far the pumps still have 94 octane.

I wonder if they've taken into account how much loyalty Sunoco has with enthusiasts? I would always go out of my way to get gas from a Sunoco, even when I only needed 87 octane. A number of my friends do this too. If they drop 94 octane I'll probably start going out of my way to avoid Petro. mad

I hate to say it, but in all of my cars, I have found Shell 91 to be superior to Sunoco 94.... Sure theres 3 octane difference but 94 has ethanol in it where Shell 91 doesnt.

I seemed to get better milage out of the 91 as well.

Has anyone tried that in place of 94 yet?

I feel sorry for the people that will be losing their jobs because of this business move. I been to Suncor HQ and got a tour of the oil sands, and its amazing to see all that goes into making our gas. I personally perfer Shell Canada's V- Power "91" product over Suncor's (Sunoco) ethonal enriched "94" but to each their own. I hope for the "94" guys that a gas station stays near you!

I get a hell of alot better mileage with the Ultramar 91, compared to Sunoco 91 in my Hyundai. Not sure why, I usually go to Sunoco because its right at the 401 on my way home from work and I collect the points.

Have any of your cars been tuned near the limits and/or datalogged?

An increase in octane will not net you more power, unless tuning is also involved ei. advanced timing. If a car is tuned for 91octane and you throw in C16 you will be slower even with the superiour fuel! So sure the 91 'feels' better, but thats only because your vehicles stock MAPS werent set-up for the higher octane. Don't blame the gas, blame the tune!

You have to pick what you want, more power or fuel economy!

The ethanol lets you run more timing at the expense of fuel economy...I suppose you could tune a lean cruise though to help out the economy side a bit.

I know what I choose... smile

I was wondering what the hell they were thinking when they had 2 petro canadas across from each other near my place. I guess that answers that question. Although i found petro canada gas to be terrible for o2 sensors. Also at work we use about 1000L per week of petro canada 87 and we get terrible MPG but the boss likes the petro pay card setup so we keep using it. And i dont mind the points smile

There will always be 94 somewhere....I remember getting it at Pioneer 7 years ago or so...and they used to buy it from Suncor.

Either way I turning my Talon into an alcohlic this winter and my worries will be over.

LMAO, deserves a Douche award!

I'm sure we'll still find 94, and if not I could easily add back the octane, and still call it "my" pump gas wink
