So I was driving down the QEW tonight in the passing lane when my drivers side front ball joint decided to snap (im assuming thats what it was) needless, to say I went for quite a ride managing not to hit any other cars or the sides and end up half way in the far right lane and half on the shoulder. So cops, tow truck, yada yada, anyway I'm obviously in a terrible mood, my wheel is hanging off the car at some ridiculous angle along with the fender. Basically I'm looking for advice, opinions, I don't really no what. The motor stills runs fine and i can see the lower control arm sitting on the ground the cv shaft is also brokem, all of that can be fixed the big thing is I went to close the drivers door just now and it caught a little bit (it had to move up a bit to close) so I guess this means a twisted the frame? I don't really know how as I didn't hit anything unless the fender is effecting it. I don't know just looking for some advice as to my next step, thanks.

My guess is the wheel pushed the fender a bit and now the door doesn't quite clear it.
Next step should be to replace all the broken bits and get an alignment. Also check the rest of the ball joints.
You can loosen the fender and door hinge bolts to try and make it clear again. Or it might just need to be bent back into shape.

Okay so the frame rails themselves should be okay then? If that's true then everything else is fine with me haha.

Well the car is unibody, it doesn't actually have frame rails. I never had it happen, however it seems just cosmetic. Kinda like when a car gets a frontal collision (well, minus the actual structural damage lol) and the felders get pushed into the door, not allowing them to open. Do you have any pictures?

Chris if your car is a 2G there is a recall on the lower lateral control arms for this very reason. Check with the dealer to see if yours has been done, and if not, new arms for you!

hmm thats very interesting about the recall, the thing is Lucian that the door is catching on the side of the door closest to the back of the car, not on the fender, also, is this recall through chrysler or mitsubishi dealerships?

and also would that dealership have to pay for the additonal damage / towing that the balljoint failure caused (cv shaft, fender) or will they just replace the ball joints and lower control arms?

So just to describe the door problem better, The fender is not touching it at all. If I open the door the whole door immediately drops about half an inch then when i go to close it, the door hits the u shaped latch near the rear of the car that the door closes on and that brings it back up and closes flush. There's no visible damage to the door so I don't think the fender hit it, i'll try to get pics up later on.

Hmm well then I would think you bent the strut apron a touch and the door doesn't align anymore. You may still be able to fix the alignment by adjusting the door hinge.
Does everything still line up body-wise?
How is the car for rust underneath? If it's bad enough, maybe the impact bent something further back from the strut.

And yeah you now have 8 lives or less alien

the rest of the body looks like its lined up, with the door closed it looks fine and also the passenger door still closes the same, I can live with that little bit of twist as long as you guys don't think it will effect the car too much, I can always adjust the hinges.

And yes I have been thinking about if there had been a truck beside me or something when this happened and I'm feeling pretty lucky today to not even hit anything smile. Even managed to check my blind spot lol

and as for rust underneath there definitely is some but its not rotten, i could see it being weakened though.

sorry to hear that, my front upper ball joints make a god awful tapping sound, and the wheel and steering feels loose, I've got those parts on the way and will change them asap. Maybe I will replace my lower ones next
