Bear with me because I am completely dumb when it comes to electrical wiring, its like my Achilles heel.

Boost gauge back looks like this

[Linked Image]

I am assuming there is some kind of connector I can just plug onto that? or should I wrap the wire and solder (this seems like a horrible idea). As far as I am assuming there is some kind of connector with a flat end that I can crimp onto those with sort of a butt connector crimp end but I don't know if this even exists.

Now for the second question (I know your sick of them), When I am connecting it to the power/ground (so far I am going to use the dimmer switch as seen here http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/art...uge-lights-factory-dimmer-switch-2g.html).

Should I use a T-Tap or just simply solder and heat shrink.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=moMri-P-T6Y&feature=related vs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gZwpMdyiz8&feature=related

Thanks for the help ahead of time, I am super bad with wiring and the last hour scouring Google has provided no answers.

*edit* for whatever reason no wiring harness or connectors for the electronics were provided. Not that I care just saying it before someone asks tu

*edit number 2* it just occurred to me I can strip the wire back about 2 inches loop it through the hole then wrap it around the prong and heat shrink over it.

This seems like a bad idea though to me but I don't know jack.

Yes, this kind of connector does exist and this is by far the easiest solution. They're available everywhere. Once you have them in your hand it'll be fairly obvious how they work. They come in different sizes to match the different sizes of "spade" terminal (as those rectangular protrusions are generally known).

Do you know the name of the connector or have a pic? I went to canuck wheel today and picked up the wiring and sh!t but couldn't find a proper connector that looked like it would work.

Just those?

That's what you need.

As long as they fit onto the spades on the back of the gauge...

That's them. They come in a few different sizes so if that exact size doesn't fit, you may have to go slighly wider/narrower.

Yea I got it hooked up and working, fishing wires through the dash and drilling holes in that a pillar were far more frustrating then I had anticipated.

Any suggestions on where to wire the power in? My options are basically

Dimmer switch
cigarette lighter wire
or
http://www.jumptronix.com/2g_go_faster/Faqs/BoostGaugeFAQ.htm

Personally I was just going to use the dimmer but reading it might not be the best idea?

I need a better way to fish wire, Jesus Christ. Well after a day of being very angry I finally got all the wires ran and the gauge hooked up and working.

I initially tried to use 12g because I am retarded, then when I found out that derp its way to huge I decided to run to wally mart and grab some connectors and some 16g wire.

Ran the 16g wire off the dimmer for 4 inches, put a female spade connector on it then put male spade connectors on the 12g ground/power and just plugged them in and it works for now. Will likely be replacing with all 16g when I install my AEM UEGO.

I seriously need a better way to fish wire, had a hell of a time getting the wire from the A pillar to my dimmer switch. Oh and drilling holes in the A pillar is no easy task with that damn bend right where one of the lotek screw holes is made.

Only problem is now I can't hook anything else up to the dimmer so I might have to use cigarette lighter for the UEGO, how hard is it to get to this wire? probably easier then dimmer switch.

You can just run wires up from the fuse box under the dash by your left foot.

That is probably the best idea, for the future is there a better way to wire things so I can retain the ability to wire them again in the future? I am currently cutting off about an inch of the insulation and twisting about an inch of the other wire around it then heating up the joint and placing the solder right on it then taping it up.

Also any particular wires that are best in the fusebox down there I will be wiring up the wideband sometime next week then an oil PSI sometime next year tongue

PS: I hate electronics *grumble*

I'd just use that same wire and run all the gauge power in parallel. So one wire goes up the pillar and then branches off to each +ve, and then another wire for all the grounds to chassis.
The UEGO might be picky about the ground you use so read the instructions.

If you're using solder, you're doing a lot better than most electronics haters grin

Yea know I just have to learn how to run in parallel, so far I have been grounding on the black/yellow wire of the dimmer, would I be better off grounding on the chassis somewhere?

I'm not familiar with the dimmer wiring.
I just added a toggle switch to the power wire for my gauges.

My guess is that the dimmer is simply varying the resistance to ground, so in order to use the dimmer you ground through it instead of to chassis.

Yea from what I understand the black/yellow varies in 12v/ground. Its in a nice place for wiring too but it doesn't have the room for more then 1 wire on each. Going to need to wire the UEGO and oil PSI soon.

I feel like I did such a hack job on the boost guage because I was in a hurry weep going to have to redo it now that I know what I am doing, my solder gun was awful too, wouldn't heat the joint up enough to melt the solder on it so I had to make contact with the gun and run it along the joint to do anything.

Also using 12g wire was the worst idea, much harder to fish and wire with.

Ok, After doing some searching and realizing how easy running parallel is, I figured I would ask just to make sure I have it right. So what I am thinking I can do is.

1)keep the 12g wire running from the boost gauge to the 16g wire off the dimmer.

2) Splice 2 16g off the 12g at the 2nd and 3rd pod and solder and tap them up

3) Hook the 2 16g with spade connectors onto the backs of the UEGO and the Oil PSI

So in the end I will have 1 main 12g with 6 16g's spliced of it at a) UEGO gauge b) oil PSI gauge c) Dimmer switch. Does this sound about right? if not humor me, I am slowly getting what little I know about electronics back from memory.

Shouldn't it be 2 wires with 3 splices each?
One is power, one is ground.

Well it would be like

Power and ground to boost guage running to the dimmer, power/ground spliced off to the UEGO, power/ground spliced off to the oil PSI.

So yea, power/ground spliced off the 12g using 16g at each gauge pod except for the boost gauge which as the 12g plugged directly into it. the 12g turns into 16g at the dimmer for easier soldering.

I see.
You are just adding 2 splices to each of the 2 wires you've already installed.
That's probably the best way, but not the only way smile

I made a drawing of it because I am doing absolutely nothing at work.

Where you see what looks like "169" is actually 16g etc and my fancy half drawn gauges.

[Linked Image]

So this is probably the best way to do it?

Would T Taps be the quicker way to do those? or should I still solder and tape.
