Ok so I I've been huntin down blocks for a bit now, and found one today. Its a 1g, and I have a 2g just wondering what you guys think. Should I go for the 6 bolt or just keep looking for a 7 bolt. And I also have a evo 3 head, will this bolt up?

6 bolt is the way to go but there's a lot involved. Do your research and see if you're up to the task. You'll need ECMLink $$$.

Well, you can try to run it without link, but look up "random misfire". Without link, you'd be doing it WRONG smile

Yeah, you have to search for it though..
http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=6+bolt+swap

Check the Road Race Engineering and Magnus websites too.

Did a lot of reading on the swap last night was very helpful. I just have one question ( for now) lol. I have an evo 3 head and my car is a 96 do I still have to swap the plug wires? I think I do just want to make sure. Thanks for your help so far Rob

No prob!
It's not the head that makes you swap the plug wires, it's the electronics. 1G CAS on a '95 ECU is part of the picture.

Cool that's what I was thinking. Read so much last night nothing was going sticking. The guy with the block is wanting me to buy the rebuilt head do you think I should go for it or just stick with the evo 3 head? He wants 500 for it. Thanks again.

Stock rebuild? If your evo head is fine, there's no point.

It has some minor things like adjustable cam gears, light port and polish. I'm going to try and get it for 300 all in

Another question for all you wise dsm'ers (Rob). started to look into what i would need for my 6 bolt build, and took a look at a couple of other sites just to see what they did, and if it was along the same lines as the magnus swap. I came across the road race engineering swap...http://www.roadraceengineering.com/2g6boltmotorinstall.htm. what they did is modified the 7 bolt oil pump to fit the 6 bolt block. I like this method a bit better because i can do a lot of the work at home and at work. and it saves me from buying a lot of new parts. So my question is... what are the advantages to using the 1g cas to the 95-96 crank angle sensor, and cam angle sensor????
Thanks again for all the help
Lee
