I've heard of the transfer case recall and suspect thats what happened to me this weekend.I was crusing at 120km/h on my way to visit a friend all of a sudden I feel the car vibrate from side to side and it feels like the brakes are locked up at all wheels so i let off the gas and pull off to the side shut the vehicle off.
I get out check underneath no leaks at this point im scared shitless. So i get into the car started driving again this time only at a 100km/h no problem at all.
When I purchased the vehicle and I asked the previous owner if it was done I was reassured it was taken care of. Called the dealer today and ran the vin and sure enough they told me the car has never had the recalled done on it. I really hope this is my problem what else do you guys think it could be?

Sounds to me like your transfercase locked up, but how you are able to drive afterwards is beyond me.

I believe if the t-case locks up, your rear wheels will not move in gear.

I'm guessing your center diff is pooched. Once the t-case goes, you usually can't drive it afterwards. The centre diff will allow you to run in RWD depending on how it breaks.

Could possibly be a wrong final drive tranny, in that case center diff could be welding itself to the output shaft at high speeds. When you let it cool down it becomes driveable again. Happened to me a long long time ago.

Sorry bout not leaving all my info the car is a 1gb. So i take in the car to the dealer of course they give me a hard time with getting the recalled done. But he also noticed and mentioned to me that my tire sizes are outta whack which would also cause that minor lock up I felt. Front tires are 215 40r17 83V,
Rear tires are 235 40r17 90v i called a tire shop that I deal with and they confirmed that there way outta wack. (face palm) I shouldve known to check when I bought these rims to check the specs. So now im getting proper tires today and still gonna get the recall done. Reza how do i find out if i have the right final drive?

The mismatched tires could do it if it was driven for a long time like that, but your viscous coupling in the transmission must be burnt out by now if thats the way it is/was acting.

If the transmission was ever changed to a JDM one, it is possible for it to have a wrong final drive. You can check the code on the transmission. Just under the upper two transmission bolts, on the transmission bellhousing is a code, starts with W5M33..... whats that code?

If the tranfer case is not physically leaking and checks out ok, then check the transmission. If the transmission code checks out ok, then I would say the mismatched tires could have damaged the VC or center diff.

JDM on our cars usually = crap.

I had a JDM tranny on my car from previous owner, and didn't realize that I was running on only 2 wheels, rather than AWD. Put in a new viscous coupler, ran a couple of days, and then my center diff grenaded. Replaced tranny to the proper one for the car and problem was solved.

I would argue that anything can be crap if you (or previous owner) don't do the homework..

^^ Agreed. I did the homework on the new tranny before installing it, verifying that it would match the rear end. Like I said, so far so good. Gnanesh is still driving her around since I did the swap back in... March?

Problem has come back to haunt me I changed all 4 new tires to proper sizing havnt had any problems. Final got to take it on a 45min drive on the highway, to see if this had fixed the problem. This time same problem occured as I was reaching 140km/h trying to pass a vehicle on the highway scary as hell it didnt happen until i reached 140 km/h so im now confident that its like reza said mismatched final drive. unfourtunatly I wont have the chance to properly check it out till the weekend. Unless its easily visabile with the hood poped and a flash light.

Your right Jamal I should've but I trusted a shop to do the motor swap for me. So I left it in there hands that I was getting a proper motor and tranny that matched for my car.I've learned my lesson I trust only me to do the work therefore I should also do the homework. All the answers are there just have to really look for it! and if I cant find it than post
