Hi guys,
My spyder seems to be consuming a pile of oil these days, About 1 litre per 500 kms. When I bought the car, I noticed alot of shaft play from the turbo. I have to change it, but im wondering if I should stick with a stock turbo as im not planning to upgrade my fuel system. I replaced the broken diverter valve with a greddy and have it recircing back into the system. There is a td05 14b im thinking from a cyclone for sale on kijiji and im wondering if it will work with my stock fuel system. Im trying to get the bugs out of the car, im only getting 23mpg with combined highway/city driving. Right now, my car is bone stock with the exception of suspension and the greddy bov.

So as it runs right now, the car has very low power, almost as if it was a non turbo car, it does spool up, but the car hesitates as if the turbo is binding (which it might be doing because of the shaft play).

Any suggestions would be great, as im in the market for a turbo, I just want to get a proper setup to run on my stock fuel system.

the turbo im looking at:

That turbo could be either a 14b or a 16G, only way to know is by the serial number on the side of the turbo.

As long as you keep things on stock boost pressures, you will be fine. Make sure you rewire the fuel system.

If you could see the fins you can easily tell if its a 16g or 14b. Ask him for a pic of the compressor wheel. Wether or not its a small or big needs serial or measuring I believe.

Question is do you want to buy a turbo off kijiji that looks like its been spray painted and is asking 250 for. I don't even think 14bs are worth that in like new condition.

2g awd, Back to dsms here I come.

14b - 16g

If you have a T25 right now, you'll need an install kit to go 14b or 16g.
Everything is "mint" with a little spray paint tongue

14b would be fine but 16g might be too much at stock boost level. Only way to know for sure is to put it on and log it. Every setup is different.

I wouldn't touch that turbo you linked to on kijiji. I don't know how many times the guy says 'mint' in his ad but that turbo is far from mint. Looks like he just painted over the exhaust manifold/O2 housing/downpipe and in the last picture you can see rust still showing beneath the paint! And he painted the wastegate actuator also without any prepwork!
If he's willing to do cheap crappy work like that to make a sale, you're better off finding something else.

Also, I can see by the serial number in the pictures he's shown that it's a 14b. 4917801-030
