The race is on for all three of us into the 11's.... Mike: Plans for next year are to stay on the same snail, but work on suspension. I'd like to clean things up a bit more in the engine bay, possibly switch to an Evo Intake manifold, 1G TB, upgrade FMIC and go with an external gate to better control boost. I'll also be finally making the switch to Speed Density.

I think I will invest in some 225/45/17 bfg drag radials for next season. I know it can't be my driving as I can get my other t25 talon to do 13.7 in the 1/4 and consistent 1.8sce 60 foot(last time out I got 1.79). I really think that the 2.3L torque is not helping when launching and the tires are 5 years old. Also I know that I'm stubborn and insist on running 40psi in the tires(hahaa). Its kind of funny when I tell people that I run 40psi in the engine and my tires. Om my last run I did 96mph in the 1/8th and 129mph in the 1/4 so I know the car works well but my 60 foot were 1.94sec WTF... I ran my car right into 11.00's on 215/45/17 General Exclaim cheapo UHP almost bald street tires. I even rolled out in 1st on them and still ran like a 11.2@135 mph. Also I trapped 129 mph at 29psi on the FP3065. I would suspect 40 psi on a DSM HTA82 should make you trap way more. 35 psi netted me 136mph. Wanna trade turbos ? I think there is something holding your car back, maybe a bottle neck somewhere. Get some slicks, but then again don't expect to shave a whole second off with them Check out Darren P, he went AWD and is still stuck in the 12's (no offence intended Darren ) , almost as quick as Ryan L. Actually Ryan L is doing better than you guys with a 12.3 @ 108. That's driving, lol, no wait that's auto!

Check out Darren P, he went AWD and is still stuck in the 12's (no offence intended Darren ) , almost as quick as Ryan L. Give me a clutch that doesn't slip & shifts properly at 7750rpm & maybe I won't be "stuck in the 12's". I've only been out twice on the awd setup & both times had issues (so I haven't bother to go back till I get them sorted out). First time out, 5 passes, on pump 91 (not the 94 I normally run), so boost started lower then street boost & as I started to up things, clutch was slipping in 1st (hench the 12.3 @ 120 w/2.0 60ft) Last time couldn't get off the line without the clutch slipping, boost was good but power was off (comp test verified 20psi lower in one cylinder) & was having issues shifting, missed 4th twice. Still ran a 12.8 @ something like 108 mph, with a poor 2.0 60ft, with my first missed 3-4 shift. Second time missed 3-4 shift, then ended up putting it in 2nd! (nice 10200rpm rev!). Pulled it out of 2nd, & coasted the rest of the way. Still managed a 13.0 @ 82mph with a ~1.95 60.

In that case I just don't know. The car pulls really hard, I never run more then 35psi at the track. Any suggestions are welcome. I know my first time out this year when the clutch was still holding properly, I was hitting 94-95mph in the 1/8th, with low 1.9 60's. I run my street tire pressure of 32 as well, zero slip. Do your tires always break lose bad or just with bad track prep/cold track temps? I believe your running the BFG KDW's? If so, that could be part of the problem (plus of course the 40psi in them!) & add to that their a few years old. They use to be a good tire but that design has been out for what now, 10+ years? Tire technology has come a long way in the last few years & I don't think BFG has kept up. I'm running 235/40/18 Kumho XS's & they offer great grip. They basically never break lose (street or track). Its not the same but I know my old man got KDW's for his vette about 5 years back & he wasn't/isn't impressed with them. The previous set of Firestone Firehawks were a much better tire in both dry & wet grip.

Hey aren't you on a dual syncro TRE stage 4 race transmission ? My single syncro rebuilds shift like a breeze at 8k, so it definately might be some clutch adjustment or slipping issues as you say. Also your mis shifts might be because of some cable adjustment issues or you might possibly have one of those short shifters in the car ? On the street right now I'm running Bridgestone Potenza S02 pole positions. I can fry them through a 2nd gear roll on. 32psi on pump and meth. Can't wait to put in my Cusco LSD center diff, to see how it counteracts wheel spin.

Also your mis shifts might be because of some cable adjustment issues or you might possibly have one of those short shifters in the car ? Yes I'm on a TRE tranny, that shifts great! Like I said, give me a clutch that shifts great (not a tranny). Adjustments are all good, but clutch drags at higher rpms. Flywheel step height (was new XACT at the time) is on the low side, measured around .606 with my Princess auto dial indicator, but figured its new, I'll throw it in anyways & figured a clutch disk wears down more then .002, so it should be alright (plus who says the PA dial indicator was accurate?). Thinking that probably caused atleast part of the issue (if not all). Clutch itself is a Fidenza 4.3, origionally held great on launching. But after about 10K I could no longer get it to hold when launching the car (but holds fine at any other time & if I roll into it at all). Building any kind of boost & it slips in 1st, obviously causing me to have to shift sooner then I should. Ends up having to shift 10mph or so lower, which made the car bog when I hit second & having to wait for the turbo to re-spool. Kinda hard to make up for all that lost time. Over the winter I'll probably be doing some work to the car this year (didn't do any last year). Clutch will be replaced, flywheel checked & probably work on building up the bottom end. If all goes well, I won't baby on the boost next year.....

So I'm guessing you won't go back to a Fidanza 4.3. What clutch you plan on using ? Probably not, will be interesting to see what it looks like when I pull it but I've seen too many guys post up the 4.3 spitting springs & even portions of the puck material missing, when they pulled it. Not sure, have thought about about going atleast a South Bend disk with possibly their pressure plate or the ACT 2900. Have heard great things on this combo (Tim Zimmer, 600+awhp, drives like a street setup & holds the power at the track). Clutch choice may depend on what bottom I build. Not sure if I want to stay 7 bolt, for the ease of things or just go 6 bolt & be done with it (not have to worry so much about clutch choice & light PP). Either way, will be keeping the 7 bolt head & if there's any funds left from the budget bottom, would like to send the head to Curt Brown for some love.

I second that. The South Bend disc with 2900 and ACT flywheel is by far the best clutch setup I have used.
I don't mean to hijack the thread here, just want to ask a couple questions! I need a whole new clutch setup, and have read lots of good things and very little bad about the South Bend clutches, but I had planned on keeping my stock flywheel, would that be a problem do you think? Also, I don't have an ACT 2900 currently that I can use a pressure plate from, so would I be ok to use one of the pressure plates from SB? Or should I buy a new 2900 PP, if you can buy them seperately? Finally, if you're using a SB disc, what discs have you tried? : http://www.tmzperformance.com/Mitsubishi%20SBC%20Clutch%20Parts.htmlThanks, Mike

I would guess he & alot of other guys are running the TZ series disk but I was possibly thinking about going the dual friction SS-X route. I believe Tim said its still very streetable but can handle the heat better & of course, more power. I'd rather be "over built" then under built. I'm sure contacting Tim directly would be your best bet as he knows a bunch of the different combos & what might be best for you. If you do, let me know what he says as I was going to contact him when clutch time comes for his input.

I talked to south bend and they recommended the stock flywheel for any setup as it can handle a lot more heat and will launch better than the ACT or Fidanza. thanks for this info, I'll definitely be sticking with the stock flywheel for now, and do plan on going with the SB kevlar/feramic disc....now just need to figure out if I'll be using their pressure plate, or an ACT....thanks Todd Mike

Ryan, congrats, nice to see the auto launch so well! It always great to see you and Ghiz, gentlemen for sure. My best was 12.6 @ 115 to Ghiz 12.3 @ 119. The BFG drag radials knocked almost a second off my times(damn fwd, lol). Giz, do you have this slip, and would you post it up so I could copy it? The girlfriend washed my jeans with the slips of that night in them. Thats what I get for leaving my pants on the floor, lol.
