The black van.
It's your average everyday Chevy Express service van, black with tints.
It's equipped with a ladder rack on the top complete with two ladders.

On the inside, it's also equipped with red and white strobe lights and a couple of police officers.

I feel it is my duty to warn you all of what is lurking in the Peel Region.

Be careful out there! freak

In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire...the A-Team.

That is exactly what I was thinking! Then I scroll down! its the Mr. T van. I used to have a replica of that toy, unfortunatly in grade 8 I thought it would be funny to send it down a hill on fire into a creek.
RIP ATEAM VAN.

I've actually been pulled over (and given a warning) by a van just like that... It's the tactical team van... seriously!

Cheers

Weird, ive passed and even went (a bit) faster than those ETF vans and they've never even gave me a look or otherwise. Maybe 'cause ive passed them with my lowly '87 civic that can barely speed up to 120 km/hr lol tongue

I almost forgot what 2nd and reverse gear feels like.

Well, at the time I was heading north on Hwy 25 at the 407 junction. Posted limit was 80, I was doing about 115 or thereabouts.... wink tongue

"Do you know how fast you were going, sir?"

"Well, um... not exactly officer. You see, I couldn't see the speedometer because this rheostat switch doesn't work anymore. I have a new one on order, just waiting for it to arrive."

"What's that blinking LED display on your dash?"

"Oh this? That's an Air-Fuel Gauge."

"Well, try to take it easier next time, sir."

"Thank you officer, Good evening."

smile

Cheers

Nice work Waldo.

I've also seen a white Volvo in Burlington and a Yukon or some other GM SUV - all black on the 403 around Erin Mills.

I saw inside one of those vans back in October fest in Kitchener. Windows were tinted beyond belief, but inside I say what looked like police issue laptop stand, laptop, standard police issue single 8 guage shot gun upwright holder. Oh yea, the ladders are bolted to the van, so no chance of taking them off the van.

Never seen them outside of the Kitchener-Waterloo area. But who knows, they seem to be adding new "tactics" to the books.

They have black "marked" cars in the Brampton area. My sister got pulled over recently by one. You can barely tell that they are cop cars unless the light is hitting them just so. The writing is all in a darkish grey. Sneaky buggers...

The City police have something similar here. It's dark blue, and the writing is a shade lighter... very hard to see it.

We should all put decals on our cars that say police in a different shade. They would probably wave to us as we drive by thinking its just another one of those "special cars"

Barrie has some new police cars too. I asked the chief of police about them (good family friend), and he said they are maroon with no lettering on them at all. The front windows are light and the back are all tinted up. They also have regular looking rims on them which used to be a give away.

I had the misfortune on the way to windsor one day... unmarked sedan... and no lights of any sort.

He folded down the passenger side sun shade, and it was this massive superbright LED thing flashing at me.

Was driving on the 401 the other day and saw a Chevy Montana or something similar with a car pulled over. Just when we thought it was safe, mini vans are patrolling the streets!.

Last night, just off the QEW, an OPP was telling me that they don't let them drive unmarked down there any more.... not "visible" enough.

ie: taxpayers looking to see how their money is spent.

Well, it's a trade-off. On the one hand, marked cars let you know they're around. How many people do you see drive nice and slow around marked cruisers, and then rocket off like idiots once the 'threat' has passed? Heck, I've seen people drive like idiots around the marked cars and not get pulled over. So in a sense, they're a 'traffic-calming' measure.

OTOH, with unmarked cars you have a better chance of catching the idiot drivers 'in the act'. But it leads to charges of entrapment (some of them true), as well as some crimes that would have been prevented (ie. not have happened) if a marked cruiser had been somewhere an unmarked one was. Of course, when you point out the same people will commit those crimes later most people will shout you down...

If they had more police, all-marked would be the answer. As it is, a blend is the 'best' solution.
