In case some of you have an Android phone (I know a few of you do at least) here is an app I got from the market.
It's called Torque, it can monitor a ton of stuff from the ECU(with a Bluetooth OBDII adapter) in real time.
You can also use it to read and clear the CEL.
There's a plugin as well that allows video recording while overlaying the gauges you have set up on the screen with real time monitoring.

It's useful for checking out engine performance, and finding out exactly what the CEL is on for without having to use a palm pilot or a laptop.

Anyways, to give you an idea of what it's like, here's a vid I took once I got my $25 ELM Bluetooth adapter.

I thought this was very cool but do they have it for OBD1?

Nice! I downloaded the trial, but never got to use it at all of course.

That's really good stuff.

What else does it do?

As of right now it doesn't seem like there are any Bluetooth OBD1 adapters. I'm not sure if the software Torque would work on OBD 1, but I'll ask the developer, his support is the best I've seen from anywhere. I should have an answer soon as my friend with 2 older V-dubs is asking the same thing lol.

I'm glad I held onto my old Android phones.

I can use it as a mini-tablet. smile

Okay it looks like it's semi no go for OBD 1, however! Supposedly there are some guys with older Beemers who have retrofitted the port of the OBD 1 plug to fit the OBD II adapters and are using Torque just fine, so I suppose it is possible, torque would work, it's more about getting the 2 plugs (car and adapter) to match up.

That thing is pretty cool!

I doubt OBDI will work because it's not really a standard, it's manufacturer/vehicle specific. OBDII is a standard used across many manufacturers and the difference is mostly in the plug and some proprietary DTCs.

Bring on that 2G ECU in a 1G V-FAQ tongue

Guy at work has this with his turbo Mini Cooper. Pretty neat, little pricey, super accurate though.

The app is free on iTunes, I downloaded it, just to check it out, snazzy.

I did it, right before I sold my last DSM.

Made the harness and everything. Car started, I was happy, then next week after that I sold the car. lol

Im gonna look in my storage locker, I think I still have the harness! I'll give it away for a pack of smokes wink

If you got really creative with the layout, guages and some dash trim...I bet you could troll youtube about super beta preview of Gran Turismo 7 for PS4.

rotflmao Rob I remember that, one of a kind and just the type of mad science we can expect from you. I believe we had a WBO2 thing going on as well rotate No, mine is still in a few pieces. I suck.

Reason I liked the 2g ecu in a 1g was for all the extra inputs for DSM link or ECM link as its called now.

gm map sensor, wide band input, egt, etc.....

I made two harnesses, one looked like the Amazon, the other was nice and clean. The clean one I sold or gave away, cant remember, but the Amazon version is for sure in a box of car parts in storage.

Any 1g guy who drools over all the 2g options Link offers (or at least did offer at the time) should do it, its pretty straight forward. Planning the wiring is the hard part. Making it look nice and clean, is the challenge. The job itself is gravy.

No need to anymore as ecmlink is offered for 1g's wink I'm running 1g V3 with full speed density with the ecmlink speed density cable. You just plug their cable into your existing MAF connector and the other ends go into your map sensor and IAT. It's TOO simple now. IAT runs off the existing iat wire in the MAF connector, and the baro is used to connect the MAP sensor. Wideband is accurately logged though the egr input. The existing iat and baro readings going to the ecu are locked in speed density mode, and instead you run off a fully customizable load/boost/afr/timing map smile

I'm accurately logging a 4 bar map sensor, IAT, and wideband. You can free up the 02 sensor input as well by getting the wideband to simulate it through ecmlink. Ecmlink is awesome and very user friendly IMO. Equivalent to standalone now IMO.

Wow, cool stuff. I'm going the link route with this new car. I'm definitely going to try and sweet talk you into letting my pick your brain when it comes time to tune.

So anyone ever use or seen some one use that ot-2 in the link I posted above as a logger on a DSM? Quick access from an iPhone or android is pretty neat. Interested to see if they can integrate some tuning features link offers in the future onto our mobile phones so we don't have to bring the laptop around.

Or even maybe get that Bluetooth receiver to work with a laptop and link! No cables would be nice.
