Only got about 360km under my belt. But I'm absolutely loving it. I don't think I could let go of the dsm. But will Probably will focus more on the bike. Got to get on the maintence stuff this week but look forward to riding it a lot more.

Shout out to mark b. of this board for cruising with me for about 280km while I get use to it and showing me some stuff.

I'm on my way out the door to work but I'll leave it at this for less then half what I have into the car this thing is twice as fast with me riding it.

I think I have a new hobby!
Who else is into bikes and still rides?

I've been out on my SV650 as much as I can. Haven't been able to do any work to it because I've been away, involved in weddings and stuff plus planning my own.

But let me know if you want to ride sometime, I've been mostly just riding to work and back.

I have plans to install new fork springs and cartridge emulators, but the weather has been so good I don't want to take it apart and not have it for a few days. I did put a sexy exhaust on it however.

Also want to take alot of it apart and do a good degreasing/cleaning, lots of hidden road grime etc driving me crazy.

Stay sharp out there, everyone is out to kill you, remember that.

Oh ya my lady has a bike to, just waiting for an oil pan to show up as it was leaking, drain plug was stripped tried to fix it. Had it drilled out bigger and tapped it but somewhere along the line the hole wasn't drilled straight or I tapped it on an angle so the plug won't seal with the crush washer properly.

I've got some friends with cruisers that like to go down to the county etc. I kind of like just taking off somewhere without a plan for a few hours.

I predict you'll drive the DSM less... and less....

wink

Enjoy it! We need to get a group of us together sometime.

(LOL... the only thing harder to organize than a group of DSMers would HAVE to be a group of ex-DSMers. :D)

Now, I'll have all kinds of time to talk about DSMs, because I won't be busy fixing mine!

Nice Deep, r6 is what I will probably buy next. R1 is my plan but that will be awhile.

Steve I think your right lol I already think I would sell it for the right price. Maybe not I like it parked next to my bike it doesn't break.

I'd definitely be down for a giant tour I'm booking half a week for the last week this month my schedule will be open then smile

Hey Jay, that's a fine looking bike you got there tongue
That was a fun 280k we did, I'm sure we'll get together soon and cruise again; like Steve alluded to, riding is extremely addicting. I'd be down for a group ride but I dunno where the heck beamsville is - they got a lotta twisties out there?

Jason, what class were you in? And who was the race organization, SOAR?

Since this is a bike thread, I'm posting a lazy, blurry picture of my bike! Enjoy!

Beamsville is about half way between Hamilton and Niagara Falls. some of the roads out here are so good, guys ride from Toronto just to get on them. (Ridge Road, Hwy 8, Pelham/Effingham road in St. Catharines...) You could almost spend the entire day just going from hwy 8, up the escarpment to Ridge Road, then, back down to hwy 8.. etc, and work your way out to the falls.

Whoa that's quite a trek, Steve... but it sounds like fun!! I'm always game for someplace new. I heard you might ride up here someday to cruise with Jay for a bit? If so, I'm down for that too!

Hey thanks Adam! It was airbrushed by wookipaints in toronto. It's a 2001 1k... I can't say enough good about it... the sound of the exhaust alone is intoxicating.

I like the 650 you got, looks like a mid to late 2000's model? Is it faired like that from the factory or did you remove the side fairings? How's she ride? Why are you changing the fork springs?

The forks are way over rated if you actually want to ride.

If you want to pretty fun ride go to Try This There's not usually any cops.

It's a 2004. I am changing the fork springs because the bike dives too much, too soft. Have some racetech springs that were made for my weight and some cartridge emulators to go with it (which helps dampening acts more like a inverted fork.. if I recall).

Yes the bike is faired like that from the factory, however I am looking for the lower "chin" spoiler which has been discontinued. There is a full fairing available but I don't care for it on this bike. I prefer the semi naked look, I wish I could find the chin spoiler though.

She rides really nice very responsive in the turns, the torque of the twin is amazing, I don't care to go too fast but I like getting there quickly. Sounds mean too. Just got to upgrade those forks and put a few other goodies on and that's all I will do to it likely.

LOL it's fun. It's perfect for anyone to judge their skill level. The better you are the faster you can push yourself. Of course do the speed limit people wink

I can't recall our last up and down time but it was a bit faster than google maps says it should be.

And forks of the credit... Wasn't there a video of 3 dsms driving that road?

I drive forks some time when I had to my parents house, it is pretty damn short but that whole area is pretty good with a few good roads to drive.

I went out east with my family as a kid (15 years ago or so). My dad and older brother were on their bikes. They still talk about the Cabot Trail to this day laugh

I went with my son around 20 years ago. It was amazing! We stopped at a couple really interesting spots along the way, including a whale watching trip. Funny, I never really thought about it, but afterwards a lot of people asked me if we went around clockwise or counterclockwise....I guess it makes a bit of a difference, whether you are on the "inside" or the "outside" of the road (we went counterclockwise). Afterwards we went down the coast to Virginia to visit some friends. It was my first ever real long distance bike trip, and my son (now 35) and I still reminisce about it...in fact we talked about it on Sunday on father's day.

He is thinking about getting another bike, and if he does, I think I can convince him to ride down to the shootout with me next year smile

My friends and I just before taking up road racing due to us being so damn stupid on the roads did the trail both ways one morning. (the trail takes most people a day to do we didnt stop to smell any roses) Had a video camera on the gas tanks pretty wild video going into corners that state 50 kph on the yellow warning sign and we are entering them at almost 2.5 X the limit hence why we all took up road racing.

What kinda suspension adjustments does the bike currently have up front - preload/rebound/compression damping? Are the current springs progressive or linear? Roughly how big of a guy are you, out of curiousity?

edit: did a quick look on kijiji and found this chin spoiler. shipping might be a bit much but it's something!

Curious as to how much people are paying for insurance?

People in Toronto around the age of 30.

I know it probably varies greatly depending on coverage, bike, age, etc., but I just wanna get a ballpark figure.

I'm waiting on a quote.

I'm paying just over $100/month and that's high. Although my bike IS a supersport 1000cc... but the rate is still high. I parked my car for the summer though so it works out to be less than I'd normally pay.

Honestly, inasmuch as I hate to give state farm any business, they're the best option for new riders over 25 years old who've had a g-class license for over 5 years. Get a quote from them if you haven't already. What kinda bike you looking at?

Mark is correct about State Farm.

I'm 40 (ugh!), but just got my bike license this past Februaury.

Bike is a 99 CBR600F4, and I'm paying 750/yr. I don't have confirmation on this, but I believe they will only insure your bike if you also have a car with them. (Worth asking about to find out for sure.)

Now, I'll have all kinds of time to talk about DSMs, because I won't be busy fixing mine!

I only have a bike with state farm I am paying $117 a month they couldn't touch my car rates. I still think its all way too much.

My fiancee pays $45 a month for her bike (little gs500) with TD but she goes through her university alumni program.

Mark - My bike has preload settings, I am really not sure what type of spring the factory spring is considered. All I know is they currently suck and the first thing people do with SV's is upgrade them. I weigh about 183lbs give or take 2 pounds depending on beer intake.

Funny you mention that chin spoiler I bought it and its currently on its way.

I pay $169/mo for my bike with state farm. Adam that bike is actually a pretty decent machine. Look for a shop to adjust the suspension for you and i'm sure that will make a huge difference. If you wanted to go to some track days you can eventually do the gsx-r front end swap.

I'm looking into getting into racing. Planning on picking up an r6 and making it a track bike.

Hey Tyler make sure to do your checks on what it cost to race and make sure that you can afford it. When I raced it was over 1000 per weekend just in rubber. 3 sets a weekend and once you really start going fast that price just goes up.
Hellish fun! Rossi said in his book you live more in 5 minutes on a racetrack then most people live in their whole life

Whoa okay looks like it's all over the board, just gotta call.

I'm looking at a 2001 GSXR600. smile

Of course this is all talk until I can get a roommate and free up some dough to pay off debt quicker and get a bike.

That's what did it for me at State Farm. The guy told me that with just one ticket my premium doubled with them. He even pulled my ticket off the quote and showed me the price split in half.

Hey Tyler my buddy races an 04 r6... and he's selling his bike and upgrading to something newer. It's obviously fully prepped for the track, safety wired, etc etc, I could put you guys in touch if you're interested - he's looking for $3800ish.

Anyone up for a ride this coming (long) weekend?

Now, I'll have all kinds of time to talk about DSMs, because I won't be busy fixing mine!
