That's a good price for a car that is practically brand new! Did this guy buy it then forget it was in the garage!?

Believe this car has been listed for sale a few times in the past year or two. Has spent most of its life in a police compound, hence the low miles. Someone probably bought it for cheap & is looking to make some $ off it, but hasn't happened so far.

Too bad green/Tan combo puke

That's a horrible price for a 15 year old car.

And that low kms looks good on paper, but without a significant amount of understanding of its upkeep, it could turn out to leave you unhappy in 6 months. Considering that everything rubber is almost certainly dried out and cracked, and that the oil changes - by age - should have been done 15 times, but may have been done once. Even the engine isn't technically past break-in periods, and there's no telling as to whether it's been running regularly to make sure oil coats everything.

I doubt any (reasonable) Talon is worth more than 10k, and that one certainly isn't.

I think in the description it mentioned that the car had been started regularly, and had regular oil changes. I think it also said that most rubber parts (including tires) and timing parts had all been replaced with OEM. I think it really is ALMOST comparable to a new car. It would seem others agree, and don't feel that price is ridiculous, because it seems 7 people have bid on it, and that price is a CURRENT BID, not an asking price.

I apologize, first time I loaded the ebay, it didn't come up with any description of the car.

Still, two bidders have brought it from $9000 to $17000. The car isn't worth that. What it's worth to a collector, or someone with infinite money who won't drive it and who wants 'The Lowest KM 2G' is one thing. What it's worth to someone who would put it on the road, another. You can go down to Classic nights, find a beautiful 60s-70s car, selling for no more than the engine in it cost.

Mike could find a $5K Talon/Eclipse, drop it off at Magnus, come out with an insane car that was working perfectly and tuned at 500hp for probably another $10K. Which would be $2K less, and still outrun everything on the street.

I doubt it will actually sell, probably a couple kids on ebay with no money, bidding it up.

Forget what his asking price was (something like $15K+) but all the posts I've seen about it tend to agree, its over priced. Think most thought its worth $8-10K in the US (& would be willing to pay that).

It may be basically new, but its still a 97. Buy it for $15K+, write it off tomorrow & see what your insurance company gives you for it rotate

Mike, not everyone that buys a sports car takes it to the track. I am sure a true enthusiast would pay big money money for an unmolested pristine car. The color is not for my taste. But the mileage makes it a rare car. People will pay top dollar for anything rare

Assuming it's this Mike... wink

Absolutely, but I was just referencing a similar method of getting to where you want to be. He could buy a clean shell from Alberta (6k), drop in a stock longblock that's just been rebuilt (2k), and a new tranny (3k). For 11k, he's where that car is.

I think at $17K, for a 15 year old car, when there are several small quick sports cars in the 25-30K range that sit with 5 year warranties and need nothing more than oil and gas, is asking way too much.

But, as you said, people will pay more for rare items. And at the end of the day, I suppose what it's worth is what someone pays. smile

Personally, if I had a good income (one that let me have "FUN" money) I'd definitely buy it. Yeah sure, you COULD buy another newer car than this with more gadgets, but most of us picked this car because we like the shape/look/style and mods for it. In an enthusiast's world, this is a gem.

Additionally, I'd like someone in the US to grab all the non molested 2g/1g/Galant/Colts/Evo/Filipaldi Eclipse etc and make a museum of sorts showcasing Mitsubishi's early years in our side of the world. At least people in the future might see what a good looking car looks like wink

As an enthusiast, Id pay in the high teens for this baby if I had the money. Without a question it would sit and be a collectors item in my imaginary garage of toys.

Im jealous of who ever gets it.

Were you directing the first post at me / my search?

I'm not big on the green colour either. The super low mileage isn't all that appealing if the car is going to turn into a nightmare after a few months of driving (if Michael's theories are true). So it seems like someone is prepared to spend some money after dropping a huge chunk of coin into it already... then it's a good buy. That, or or if that person just wants to tuck it away in their garage to look at from time to time, while having another solid DD.

I love DSM's, but I don't think I'd want to spend 17 grand on one and then need to worry about replacing a sh!t load of parts... when an EVO is ~10k more!

This one, seems like it's actually been driven with the low miles as well. Green though... but has mods and a CF hood which looks way better. http://syracuse.craigslist.org/cto/3178231604.html

Ya but.. Give it afew years... Whats worth more now: 1..A 70 hemicuda, with a rebiult motor from another car and some interior parts from an aftermarket oem replacement store.. or 2. A 70 hemicuda with the original hemi motor, with only 2100 original kms and the original interior? Even if its an ugly colour, its worth a fortune over the later...

In fact I really hope who ever buys this DOES put it away and keeps it as a museum peice. It would be nice to see this sell on berrat Jackson auctions in 10 years for a million dollars. It would be the only one left now that still could.

although, the colour is probably why no one wants to drive it tongue
