Did a leakdown test today to find cyl 1 is 90% the other 3 were around 20% so now on the hunt for a complete running 6bolt, also a fidanza flywheel for a 6bolt awd and new act clutch

I am with Stephen with this one. If it's just a valve then a head swap is easy and a lot less work than putting in a brand new block. What's your idle vacuum like?

He had excessive crankcase pressure, and the fuel pump was on basically constantly so the oil was contaminated with fuel. Bearings are prolly done. bomb
Crankcase pressure could have been caused by the fuel in the bottom end but Im predicting a mixture of rings and excess fuel in the oil.
Hopefully just sounds worse then it is.

Oh! Did you check it Kyle? Vacuum will tell you you have low compression but unless you really know how to read the guage it is hard to tell if it valves or rings. Fuel pump being on wouldnt make a difference unless you had a leaky injector. Was the car misfiring

Fuel pump was wired to be on when he turned the key apparently, so how i understand it the pump would run without the car even running.

Yeah but even with the pump on he would have to have the injectors leaking to fill the crankcase. Unless his faulty ecm caps damaged that circuitand keep one on and washed the cylinder wall.

True Story. I was just asking the question because as Bryan stated a leaky valve is way easier to replace that a complete engine.

If I had a leaky valve, or headgasket. And I could find another running motor with good compression. I would def swap the complete motor! Way easier then the effort of replacing a head. Then I would rebiuld the motor I just took out and swap it back in.

Your nuts Jay. To go though all the effort to swap out a motor you know nothing about i nstead of fixing a valve.

if I could hear the motor running or at least do a leak down test on it and roll it over by hand..then id swap it..

Head job-Think of all the things you have to remove and replace.. gaskets.. studs.. belts.. and all the other stuff you prooly should replace anyway. Then all the bolts that need re torquing and specs that need checking. Surfaces that need cleaning and maybe resurfacing. All for a half rebiult motor??

There is alot more to replacing a head then the few bolts that need to be undone to remove and drop in another motor.

Besides Ive replaced heads and found the motor wasn't worth reusing. This way, put the running motor in the car, and rebuild the leaking motor the right way. Then you will have a whole fresh motor, not a half fresh motor.

I know all about swapping parts and cleaning gaskets. But all that you would have to do on a used longblock even with a leakdown test(althought i give you credit for saying that instead of a compression test) You still don't know what you are getting in a used engine. How do you know the same guy who sold John the oringal car isn't sell you a "good used engine". Just my opinion. And I wasn't 5 when you rebuilbt your first engine i was probably building them on my kitchen table just like you.

if he finds a complete drop in motor.. that he can hear running or do a leak down test on. then that wouod not need any new gaskets. aslog as the intake and exaust manifolds were still there. i guess sure a turbo gasket and a tb gasket. but hey he would not need new hrad studs.. gasket.. etc. just drop the motor in and worry about tue rebiulding of yer next motor or pull that motor and rebould it new valve parts and new piston rings along with new bearings.

either way it sounds like he needs new rings anyway.

sorry ryan..

pos...haha what a headache this thing has been.. anyways ive been talking to kyle pretty much all day and its getting worse and worse.. i can only discribe the sound of the engine.. it sounds like a subaru sti with exhaust lol has a pretty bad misfire now, so im just gonna drive it till it lets go.. doesn't even make that much boost anymore frown maybe 8-9psi.. so my plan is to get a running 6bolt motor swap it in so i can build one. brendan warwick has 2 6 bolts.. one is a jdm one and one sounds like its really nice thats in his talon now.. and offered to install it for a lil more $ so im gonna see what he says and hopefully i can get this done sooner then later, i don't want it sitting in my shop with a bad engine lol id rather be driving it as my truck is put away for the winter (those who have seen my truck know how clean it is and hasn't been winter driven)

have you tried testing the transistor thingy next to the sparkplug wires, god I wish I remembered the proper name for that unit...when mine went the car would only run on 2 cylinders and sounded like you described.

are you referring to the coil?

and I would agree with Jay about swapping the entire motor. It's less headache.

maybe but he got a 90 percent drop on his leak down. which means he knows why its acting funn he just needs to either listen to where its leaking or get another motor.

LOL Terry, at least on a 1g it's called a transistor. My fuel return was leaking and I started running on two cylinders too!

Finding a complete 6bolt that is drop in ready for a decent price may be a difficult find. Most guy's that have 6bolts want their 6bolts.

Yes sir! I have a spare 6 bolt and I wouldn't part with it unless I was offered stupid money.

But honestly, I didn't have a hard time finding mine. Actually both of mine. Kijiji is your friend wink

Yeah, I found a complete 6-bolt longblock, with transmission still bolted to it as well as the transfercase for $200. New 3 bolt rear axles were also included. Sold the axles for $125, and was left with everything else for $75.

Unfortunately, these kinda deals never seem to come around when you're in need. Only when you don't need it does somebody decide to sell stuff for cheap tongue
