It seems 15s is the way im gona have to go.
I have 540 AWHP as it sits right now and run low 11s on street tires.
Its time to stop melting the tires off the launch and jump to some slicks.
I have never ran slicks before. What would be an ideal size on 15 inch wheels? Whats people here having good luck with?

Haven't run pure slicks but should probably look at Hoosier & M&H. Believe M&H make a 24.5" tall tire or you could probably look at a 26" tall tire, like alot of the "big boys" run. Believe both Hoosier & M&H make one of these.

Alot of bigger DSM's also run the Hoosier QTP's (26"), but believe their only available in a 16" rim.

Edit: May be wrong on the QTP's, looks like they may also offer a 15" version now....

You are not trapping over 150+MPH running low 11's, a 26" tire would be useless IMO.
MT ET drags or M+H is the way to go.
24.5" is what you want, choose one of the above two.

Both are excellent slicks, if I had to choose from the two again, I'd go with the M+H.

My current setup is Rota Subzero rims with MT slicks. Rims are 15x6.5 weighing 12.9 lbs each. Slicks are 24.5x8x15 weighing 17 lbs each. Total 29.9 lbs per wheel.

That sounds great. I have a supplier for MTs so maybe I will look into them. And ya... Im far from 150 MPH So the smaller ones would be better.
Thanks for the input.

Typically they say you can run a 26" tall tire if your making at least 400awhp. Not sure I'd want that tall of tire at that power level but anywhere from 550-600+ & you should be alright.

When do you need to switch into 5th gear, above 150 mph? I would think the 24.5" tall tire would be the quicker tire, as long as it didn't require an extra shift vs the 26" tall. Though I know alot of guys that are in the 550-650hp range run the QTP's @ 26" tall, instead of a 24.5" tall tire, not 100% sure why they went that route.

They simply don't know better. You'll only see gains from a 26" tire once you trap over 150MPH. This I am quoting from super fast guys in the DSM world who have already been there and done it.
Personally I don't plan on making my car trap over 150MPH. Even if I did, I wouldn't buy a 26" tire untill I actually got to that point.

You simply need as much tire as your car requires. The bigger the better doesn't apply here wink

Typically you want to run the most you can, that allows proper traction. Lower pressure typically allows better grip, but will slow the car down at the top end.

Most start with ~20psi & work their way down from their.

Not the same, but when I was fwd, with Hoosier DR's (nylon belted so very soft sidewalls for a radial tire), 18psi on a well prepped track was as low as I needed.

My auto car makes 540hp I run 26s to stay in 3rd. 4th won't hold power, anyways.

I do 15/18psi keep the rear suspension a bit soft, keep the front stiff (limiting straps), let her squat and hope it stays together!

I have a set of QTPs for sale, pm me.
