I just received my insurance renewal papers, the premium went up by 35%, due to three minor convictions. I have one speeding, illegal left turn and get this failed to surrender an insurance card. My insurance is counting the non-driving violation as part of the equation. WTF does that have to do with driving, or how does that make me a higher risk driver. The raise would have been 5% instead of 35%!
Do all insurance companies take this into account? Should I bother getting quotes from other companies? I an fvcking pissed, from $324/month to $457/month.

I thought you have 24 hours to present your insurance or license when you don't have it on you.

I've asked my friend to get me a quote, but I think all insurance companies will treat these the same way. All three convictions will be off my record in 2014, one before the renewal and the others afterwards. I can't imagine that if you forget your insurance paper three times in less than three years, you'll be paying as much as someone that got caught speeding, ran red lights...etc.
On the day I got the ticket, I got called from my daughter's school, she had a freakout. I jumped in my wife's car and drove to school. I thought forgot my wallet all together when the cop pulled me over. After he gave me the tickets and drove away, I realized i had it on me....grrrrr

Final one coming off this summer. Yeah, cops can be real dicks sometimes (sorry Eric) My 2nd one was a 6 over. The cop asked me "sir, do you know what the speed limit is on this street?" I said "50". He asked me "and do you know how fast you were going?" I said "couldn't have been more than 60" and he said "correct, 56". So I said ".... and you pulled me over for that?" and he brought me back a ticket.

Mike, lesson is don't be a smart ass, BUT, I never EVER am, but still got hit with these types of tickets.
I even get a, "Thank you for cooperating."
Worst one was a headlight being out, which I had to take a day off work, and it was thrown out immediately when I went to fight the ticket.
No warning, officer just said well how am I supposed to know if you're going to get it fixed?
I was on the way to buy the bulb. He was a straight jackass, I wanted to break his nose. This was Etobicoke, right at Bloor/Islington.

You also live in Peterborough... location is another factor you forgot to include. Does location really make that much of a difference? I've heard that some area's are higher to insure than others... but I always figured the difference was fairly negligible. When I moved from Mississauga to Guelph, my insurance dropped 40%.

Huge difference. My wife moved from Brampton to Trenton, no other changes, went from $256/month to $98/month. Full coverage on a 2010 Impreza. Funny part is that's cheap for brampton

Brampton's the worst though...in CANADA! anywhere you move to is better. True, there is not one yearly recurring cost that I can think of that is cheaper in brampton. Car Insurance, House Insurance, Taxes.... the list goes on!

You could always take the route that I took. Find a place that's walking distance from a station.

Alex, tax is a percentage of the property value, that percentage is based on the area you are in.
Choose any area that borders Brampton and I guarantee you that you pay more tax than someone with a home of similar value.

For a $300,000 house you will pay $3606.80 in taxes a year, for the same house in Halton Hills (aka Georgetown) you will pay $2983.98. Those calculations are based on the 2012 rates.
The house insurance was just a guess, I honestly have no idea what other pay, plus I think this is the one thing that doesn't actually get affected by the area. House insurance is based on what it would cost to rebuild your house to what it is if it was reduced to rubble.

It's extremely odd to have that count as an offence. All 3 companies I've worked for would not count it and if I were to quote you, it would be based on 2 tickets. Grant, check your PM
