Liking the collection of Colts in Croatia! tu Had a couple myself before graduating to DSMs.

I believe there are a few insurance companies in Ontario that will consider driving experience from certain other countries but I doubt that Croatia would be on the list of those countries. What you probably need to do is take a drivers course as soon as you arrive. You sit though 20 hours in a class room and 10 hours of private driving instruction. It will be pretty boring but you may learn a few of our driving rules in the class room. Since you already drive you will probably learn nothing in the actual driving lessons but it will allow you to get familiar with the traffic hell that is Toronto. The real reason you take this course is that you will get a certificate that every insurance company in Ontario accepts for a huge discount (I think around 45%). This discount is good for 3 years which is the amount of time required before rates start to drop by any significant amount. Just make sure you go to an approved driving school to get the certificate!

What are the chances of finding a cool driving instructor? Since I do already know how to drive, but I would like to practice my sideways driving XD

Actually that's one of the thing I know I will love about Canada.
In Croatia we don't have any raceways, well there is one but they charge high as hell. There is like one 402m race and guess what... yea expensive like sh!t to enter.

And yea I heard that those driving schools can cut down your insurance, but for 45% ??? damn I am going there the second I land smile

Dobro dosli stari moj.

I speak Croatian alot better than I can spell it.
The biggest group of Croatians is around Streetsville, which is in the westend of the city. That's where the Croatian park and clubs are. I typically go back to Krk/Rjieka every other year and here are some key differences you should know about:

-Cafe's are few and far between, instead we have Tim Horton's, which you will probably find disgusting as most of my relatives do when they visit. But over time you will learn to love it.

-You will not find a place that sells cevapcic

-Say goodbye to the exciting roads because here they are straight and boring

-Since you're Croatian, odds are 99.99% that you smoke. Cigarettes are expensive here.

-Canadians are very polite and caring people

-Gas is ALOT cheaper here

Hvala Peter smile

Tbh, I knew there is a lot of Croatians in GTA.
But didn't expect to find one on the forums laugh

I heard that coffee is not the same as in Croatia, so I already prepared my self to make it at home smile

Regarding cevapcici... you are wrong wink
A friend of mine was living in Toronto few years ago and he found a Bosnian restaurant that has cevapcici, burek and Croatian coffee laugh When I get over there, we could go there if you are up for it wink ( Everyone is invited hehehe )

Yea I do smoke, but I am cutting down,I wanna quit before we head out.

And since the gas is a lot cheaper (around 40%)and you have more raceways and better organized racing events in general, I hope that will put my mind of Croatian roads a bit smile

I am quite impressed and glad how you guys are so nice and helpful over here. Already liking you guys a lot and looking forward to call you guys friends in near future smile

Ps. If Paul is in Dubrovnik, he will most probably have to go to Split airport (where I live).

Hope he will see this thread smile

If it's not in any of the models (engine was never used in that particular model) you can still have it insured as a hot rod I believe if you want it to be legit. Not fully sure because I've never done it but that's how the guys in the States do it (when they even bother telling insurance tongue )

Hope you guys don't mind if I check into this thread. I just got back last night from a two week vacation in and around Dubrovnik, Croatia. I was unaware of this thread until I read it earlier today. I was "roughing" it in Croatia: no cell phone, no laptop, didn't even go to an internet café. Was much more interested in drinking in all the beauty of Croatia. Love the climate, the women, the history, the Adriatic, etc, etc, etc. I plan on going again maybe next summer. I want to experience the summer scene in Dalmatia

I didn't fly to Split (I flew from Amsterdam to Zagreb to Dubrovnik) but I did take a bus from Dubrovnik to Split sometime early last week. Split was beautiful (at least the part I saw--the ancient part by the harbor). Of course Dubrovnik is world famous for its historic beauty.

overall questions about living in Canada
If you're used to the climate in central Dalmatia, you're gonna hate the winters around here. smile

hahahaha everyone keep saying that.

Few of my friends where living in Toronto for a year.
And they told me that winters here are worse. In cold fell at least. We have a wind called Bura...
sometimes its insane. I goes from 60-140kmh in a split second. Highest peaks are above 220kmh. It blows in waves and it doesn't matter how well you cloth... it will go thru everything. And its cold as f*** wink Interesting to drive to as well XD

But I am always complaining that the weather here is way to hot, so I should be fine. My gf on the other hand... she is always cold laugh

I've experianced Bura, and it has nothing on an extreme cold alert in Canada. Instead of wind blowing on you making you cold, you step outside and the icy air soaks into your bones.
Although it's pretty cold in Gorski Kotar.

Damn, all this talk is making me miss Croatia. I probably won't be going this year since my little one will only be a few months old. But next year we're doing this road trip for several weeks.

Fly into Venice
Drive south to Brindisi with stops along the way
Ferry to Greece
Drive around Greece
Drive north and stop in Dubrovnik (My wife loves Game of Thrones so this is special for her)
Slowly drive north with stops until we hit Krk.

FYI, flying out of Venice is WAY cheaper than flying out of Zagreb.

How much cheaper ? I've been told that it is a lot (almost 50%) cheaper to buy tickets when in Croatia.

I know that if you buy a round trip ticket Split-Frankfurt-Toronto it is around 1000$

And yea ... there is "bura" and "orkanska bura"

Orkanska bura is refereed as hurricane force.

But yea ... I am used to cold, I did travel a lot and tbh I prefer cold then heat smile

+ you can have more fun on snow smile

Air Transat
Venice-Toronto Direct
~$900

All non-direct flights I've seen are usually over $1300. Could be better this year, last year was brutal. Paid $1200.

I'll look into that option next time. On a side note, for a major city, I was kind of surprised how small the airport was in Zagreb.

I love Zagreb. Stopped there 4 or 5 times for an overnight and a fuel stop.

Adreatic side of the country is definately on my bucket list.
