So I'm selling/moving. Needed to have potable water for financing. 1 part per 100ml of E. coli, and 80 parts per 100ml of coli forms.

No treatment system currently on well. Once home owner found results he decided to 'shock' the well. I hope he knows what he's doing and doesn't drain the bleach/chlorine into the septic....

Anyways. No treatment systems on the water currently.

Anyone on a well? Dug, drilled or driven? Anyone have any input? I got an extension on getting my inspections, financing etc. I'm going to ask he puts in a UV treatment system, and the water be retested. Etc.

Maybe it was a one time contamination, not sure. He has water tests from previous checking out good. I don't plan to drink it, but I would like to know its safe for washing, etc.

I'm going to contact some people tomorrow and get some quotes on acceptable treatment systems.

I'm going to make this guy put one in and retest the water for it to be potable or ill drop my offer. Heck, how's he going to sell to anyone else unless the waters potable? Banks won't lend, most don't pay cash either.

Also on a well.

Treatment system: Um... I have a water softener? Makes my skin feel all nice and smooth after a shower.

UV will be fine.

So my home was built in 1993, the well itself is of course 20 years old and we took possession in 2007. It was tested then, and probably could use re-testing now.

I cook, clean, shower and wash my cars with the water but I do not drink it. One thing is for sure the taste just isn't there. And don't get me wrong. I like the idea of getting a daily dose of minerals..But not like that. wink

Anyhow, the well is likely drilled. Has a concrete cover and I have yet to look down it.

Like Ryan mentioned, also running a softener. IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE! But not so much that I get a lot of calcium build up in my taps. Which likely is in the piping as well. For this, CLR is your friend.

As for you making this a deciding factor to buy? THAT is logical and the seller should know this. It only hinders there ability to sell. Contamination is much like mould. Which I suggest you check the sump pump room for condensation and possible mould. This was a problem for me. Air circulation is just as important as plumbing and water supply, electricity, heat, internet...the list goes on.

PS. If you're considering a home in the country. I hope you're ok with sub-par internet.

I think the seller should give me a reduction in price to compensate for the questionable water so I can make the repairs.

Sure he shocked it, but it's obvious that it could get contaminated again, what am I supposed to do. Weekly water tests?

I mean the seller should be responsible for the house having a potable reliable water source. It's making me question the house.

I put 20% down, I have to buy all appliances since they will be sold with my current one, and I need for fork out another 5k once I move in so I have a reliable water source? I should be getting a price reduction then.

As for the poor Internet, I'm only 5 minutes south of ancaster. The place is just beyond city limits, and to be honest I hardly ever use the Internet except for my LTE on my cell. Which is pretty quick!

Do you have any kind of recourse at this point?

Maybe talk with your realtor about this issue?

If you have, what is their input?

The fact that you're already questioning the purchase of this house isn't a good sign. I'd say keep looking.

Recent downpours can affect wells. My well is drilled 172 ft deep. Water is amazing, its all I drink. 26ft of water last time I checked.

I think for $5000 you could have a drilled well. Work it into the price. Nobody has "dug" wells anymore.

How are you measuring the depth and quantity?

Aren't you susposed to add chlorine to you regularly. sh!t even city water is chlorinated.

You should have that clause in contract. Unless your agent is unexperianced.

I had 2 water test fail on a property i was going to buy. The selling agent stuck a bbq lighter in the tap for a minute then pour me a cup and said go have this tested. I said go frack your hat if i need to burn all the crap out of the taps before i drink you can hand me back my downpayment.

I have a dug well. Its fine but dosent give me enough water.. I run it out after acouple weeks. Its a 25ft well.... We have a sistern we fill every other month.. bit cheaper then the average water bill arond here. Plus we drink store bought water jugs for the cooler.

I would have paid for a drilled well but we are sappost to get city water in the next few years and that will allow me to severance off 2 lots and sell them. This shoild pay off my house And Ill be mrtgage free before Im 40

The only part I'm questioning is the water quality.

My dad just had a driven well installed at the new house he had built. It was only 2800. It's not a major expense if I have to have another well installed for a better water supply.

We have been looking for 7 months already, and this is only the 2nd house we've offered on. First was power of sale and we didnt get it.

Anyways, Ill get another water test done Monday, as well as a mineral test so a water place can give me exact specs on the water treatment system I will need. Hopefully the 2nd test passes.

Thanks guys.
