apparently, I walked into a bloomingdales in NYC yesterday and charged 5 grand worth of merchandise to my credit card. Luckily I also used my debit card in petawawa literally minutes apart so the bank is waiving the charge without question.

I'm so careful with my credit card and wallet the only thing I can think of is that I had it cloned in vegas because they only use magnetic strips in the states.

Either way, wow. Never thought it would happen to me

It is actually pretty easy to get the charges reversed because they don't have your signature, but the merchant is out that money...

Yeah I feel bad for the merchant but the states really need to start putting chips on their cards.

That does nothing for online/telephone transactions, and not sure a chip/pin is any more secure than a signature..

Everyday of student life. 1 more year...1 more year...that's what I keep telling myself until I realize I still have a Masters ahead.

On a related (to the topic) note, my credit card got jacked during the Fall, but I (obviously) wasn't out for the money and they sent me a new credit card with a chip this time laugh

Its wild how easily things can be recorded, I am a huge fan of the chip frankly I dont think anyone has the right to even hold my credit card these days. (other then to check signatures but how often are they even used)
Chip cards you are at least in control of the way things are handled.

Apparently there are even chip card copiers now.
Whenever I go to a place like Las Vegas, Montreal, etc. I always put in the wrong pin number once. Because if it is a card reader that is stealing your card number / pin, it will automatically say accepted. A friend of mine who used to manage a gas station said that there was a guy who would offer to pay him 10k a month just to plug in his "card reader" once every few days for a couple hours.
