Jiggle it up and down while you're trying to turn and it should catch!

You might be able to get one cut with your VIN at a dealership.

Keep in mind.... For 1gs the dealer no lknger has the codes. I had to actually remove the pass. Door lock and have a lock smith read the code off it and make me a key. Now the 2gs may still be in the registry.... But it was 40 bucks for the locksmith to make a key.. I believe the dealership wanted more if they were able to get the code.

2gs the dealerships have them. My lock broke on the glovebox and had to have it changed, they had all the codes for the keys. Back then they only charged me the price of the parts, but they also made me leave the car in front for a while so they could show it off a bit tongue They let me watch a F&F while I waited haha good ol' days

I'm just hoping the ignition is still original in my 2g and supposedly codes are found by VIN?

Yes. Unless you have the orignal key code tag that came with you keys. Which i doubt.

$29+HST and i got myself a brand new key from mitsu brampton though the tech did advise i should think about either changing the ignition assembly or getting a locksmith to reset the pins as it is still a bit iffy when turning

also he said the key needs to get worn in?

Manny, I've had about 7 keys cut (2 from the dealership) and none of them work. Jiggling or not. So if you have a plastic brush wheel on a bench grinder or rotary tool, you can wear down your key like that.. otherwise, count yourself lucky you can even turn your ignition or door lock cylinder.

Spray some lube in the cylinder. Everything works better with lube.

Graphite is better, but only after being cleaned/flushed out with WD40; but yeah, wd40 is better than nothing. Dont, use silicone, or goopy sprays as they will attract dirt.

I always found wd40 to attract rust and I seen it on TV once on one of the car show on spike. Aperantly it strips the metal of its oils?? GOod example .. Spray a bike chain... It will evebtually rust solid. Wd40 does have rust proof stuff that they dvertise, but ive never seen it around here.

Ive always used pbblaster ever since.

WD 40 is the DEVIL. But if it is all you have it will do since it is pretty tough to rust brass and aluminum.

The best way is to remove and disassemble the tumbler and cylinder. And file down any high spots.

Dry powdered graphite is all you should use on lock cylinders. I've seen a variety of cylinders that people have used spray lubes on and on the worst of them the tumblers a frozen in a concrete like goo. DON'T use spray lubes! Some cylinders come from the factory with a white grease in them but even that stuff cakes and hardens and makes it tough to get the tumblers to move properly.

Tried powerder graphite before. Usually doesnt work. The best is to disassemble a clean it properly. When we do a igntion cylinder recall Honda tell us to use the white grease( sure what the generic brand is our is just marked honda)

Like Darrel said the tumblers cake up. I have had to use a small punch to get some out. And the tumblers usually grind grooves in the cylinder so when you have a new key the tumblers move more and dont follower the old grooves same goes for an old key in a new cylinder.

So when we replace the cylinder we file the tumblers abit to get rid of any high spots. That way when the client picks up their car the dont have the issue you are having right now.

2g keys can be obtained from the dealership at a cost of $45. I got this because mine broke. Also, it took them 2.5 months to get it done..... Grrr "oh, we can't decrypt the code..."
