Fraser that sounds promising but what about the chips and circuits in the datalogger cables we normally run? Or we still run that, but not thru the OBD1 port?

I'll clarify my previous post. The pin #1 (data) on the diagnostic connector goes to pin #1 on the ECU and pin #10 on the diagnostic connector goes to pin #2 on the ECU, all you have to do is connect the data pin of your datalogger cable to pin #1 on the ECU and pin #2 on the ECU and the ground connector of the datalogger cable to ground, I would suggest connect both cables to the same point. Connecting pin #2 of the ECU to ground has the same effect as connecting pin #10 to pin #12 (ground) on the diagnostic port. Amin, pin #1 and pin #2 on the ECU are located on the big connector, you can check here

Hey Octavio, I've connected the data pin on the connector to pin 1 on the ecu and pin 10 on the connector to pin 2 on ecu and the ground of the connector to a good ground. I am using TMO software from a laptop running windows XP. I have verified that voltage is coming out of both ecu pins and voltage is coming out of pin 1 on the connector (data).
But when I try to connect with the TMO software it says it's not properly connected to the ECU. Any ideas?

Hey Justin, Do you know how to connect a LED to the diagnostic port to get the error codes?, if you do, you can connect the same LED directly to the ECU (pin #1) and verify that the ECU is sending data out. If you want I can help you finding the problem. I have a LED and a palm with me. BTW your PM box is full.

Well it looks like it works with the LED to pin#1 and ground. We got error codes with any problem. But I still get a ECU connection error when I connect to both pins 1 and 2 with the serial cable to the laptop.
Has anyone else experience this kind of error? Or know how what I may be doing wrong?
