I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet!

I like the idea... I know the thought really sucks for vette enthusiasts. But I think if you want that car to compete with Ferrari and all those other Italian manufacturers I think it make sense!

Maybe I'm wrong but when I think 'merica I think straight line muscle cars that suck in turns. Hopefully this C8 can change that.

Except that the Corvettes are the best bang for your buck there is. The C6 ZR1 blows all those supercars/exotics out of the water around a track with few exceptions and the C6 Z06 was only a few seconds behind. The C7 Z06 is probably just as fast as the C6 ZR1 if not faster and again, will easily blow most supercars away around a track. Same with the Camaro Z28. The new Viper T/A is also ridiculously fast around a track.

You may think of straight-line speed when you think American cars but you're sadly mistaken - that died a LONG time ago. If they ever built a mid-engined car it would be in addition to the standard FR Corvette - they would NEVER abandon that traditional platform as it would be suicide.

The car in that article looks like a Ferrari.

American cars are very much improving. Got a ride in a brand new Cadillac CTS-V twin turbo and that thing not only is extremely fast for a 4 door car, but handles very well.

It was/is the fastest 4 door car around the Nurburg ring from what I recall for a while.

IMO, they still can't get the rear look of the vette right.

That's the CTS-VSport, not the CTS-V. It's the 'middle ground' between the 3.6 ('base') and the V. The full V was/is the fastest sedan in the world.

Even still, it was fast.

The real V must be a blast to drive. Definitely not just about straight line speed, but it's still very good at it.

Not really a fan of most American cars but I do have a soft spot for the new C7 Vette & the C7 Z06 is better still.

Haven't really looked into it much but from what I've seen, think the new C7 Z06 is "better" in most areas, vs the C6 ZR1 (sure all ZR1 owners are thrilled with this, lol). The new Z06 with the Z07 aero package is the most aggressive areao GM's ever offered & by the sounds of it, that thing would be a monster on the track & I'm not just talking about the ones that only go straight wink

I'm still waiting for the return of the Grande National!

Man, that car was so sexy and power incarnate!

Well, I didn't want to outright say it but I'm pretty sure you're right. It remains to be seen if a C7 ZR1 will be released but I wouldn't count on another one in this generation and maybe never at all with the way the Z06 is going (ridiculously fast) and emissions/etc. too. A ZR1 that would be a large leap over the new Z06 would likely be one of the fastest (straight line but especially around a track) production cars ever.

If they did release another ZR1, you would think they'd want another big jump in performance vs the Z06, so I could see where 750+hp would be required. If thats the case, guess that article would make sense, about the current platform already being "maxed out".

Interested to see what the Z06/ZO7 package runs "the ring" in wink
