Hi Guys Looking for some help here I have a 50" Samsung Smart TV and a Logitech Z-5500 speaker system. I've always had the speakers hooked up to my mac via an optical cable and controlled the volume with the control pod. The picture shows a remote control, but I have no idea where it would be as I've had these speakers for years Question I have - Do you know how I would be able to hook this up to the tv and maintain the volume controls with the samsung remote?

Hey Mike,
I have those speakers on my computer too.
Basically you can't.
The control unit does everything on these, so you can't do anything via remote.
You can buy them online though, used on Amazon I believe.
Give that a try.

If he's using an optical cable to the control unit of the Z5500s then setting any volume levels from sources won't do anything, because the Z5500 is handling all audio duties over optical/spdif.
Just get the remote, you'll be happy you did.
I was lucky enough to find mine after having misplaced it.
It pays to be a pack rat sometimes.
The speakers are okay for what they are.
Have fun with em!

Not sure if your TV has the option for RCA out's or just digital. Both my Panasonic and Samsung smart TV's had RCA audio outs that worked with my TV's remote for volume. Won't work through digital toslink though so audio quality takes a small hit, but not as much as you'd think...

I mean send an IR signal from the cable/sat remote to the Logitech. Assuming he has cable/sat. Yeah, not sure if that'll work, I recall looking into this when I thought I lost my remote a while back. Worth a shot though if Mike has a universal remote laying around, that or if his phone has IR there are universal remote apps to download on Android.

Android S6 here, but controlling the volume from my phone sounds silly.
"Hey Petro, turn up the volume for the Leafs game"
"Sure, one sec, I have an app for that... "
I have a universal remote somewhere at home, so I could try that. The one on Amazon ends up being ~$30 after shipping. The remote's required for certain options, I forget which, but it's worth it, get it.

Oh cool, I wasn't sure what IR input was. I think our TV came with an IR cable... must have. With some searching, I found this link http://www.samsung.com/au/support/skp/htg/16311#noneSo with the cable plugged in, hopefully a universal remote should be able to connect to the output of the logitech speakers. Then I can use that same remote for everything else. Worth a try!

It may be tricky finding the Logitech code you have to input into the universal remote you have. I'm sure google could help you out there...
I had a set of those speakers way back when, they were awesome for PC speakers. They use TangBand drivers which is a brand I've used in many custom speaker builds and they are rock solid!

I personally wouldn't bother as I highly doubt you'll be able to access all of the options via the universal remote. Do you mean to say no one else keeps the boxes like I do?! haha But, if you're only looking for volume control, you could be in luck. I know that control unit is VERY specific to the set of speakers, which leads me to believe that the remote would be just as particular. It was a nightmare trying to get a new control unit for my Z-5500s to the point where Logi just took them back and sent me a new set of Z906s (as the z5500s are out of production and exceedingly difficult to find spare parts for the early units.... there is a difference)
In a quick search, I did find this. Maybe it'll help? These are the individual codes for each function on the Z5500 remote. I don't know if you can custom map buttons on your remote, but there you go.
Test = 61669 Power = 44517 Direct = 28645 Optical = 29669 Coax = 27877 Effect = 12517 Settings = 13029 Sub + = 62437 Sub - = 61925 Center + = 61413 Center - = 61157 Surround + = 60901 Surround - = 60645 Volume + = 12261 Volume - = 28389 Mute = 44773
