Yep #4 went out. Shame, because with 222k it still ran great and strong. Now it's off the road for the season, but as I started taking it apart I'm kinda happy. Gives me a good chance to look over some stuff that was getting old, clean it up to my liking, and now I have a winter project! Lucian, can you provide more insight on what happened. I recall you were using Cobb ACCESSPORT but not sure of the tune specs. How much boost and A/F you had it set for? From what i know, 4B11T can handle as much power as old brother 4G63 in stock form. Which is roughly 400-450 torque.

I have already seen a handful of guys blow up their Evo X's on off the shelf Cobb maps and "Pro Tune" maps. Before taking these X's off the AP Cobb maps, I purposely do a baseline pull to see what they make, and all these cars are making only like 290-310 WHP. Lame, as I easily dial them in to 380-400 WHP safely.
Your the second guy in the past two weeks to tell me they blew the bottom end on an off the shelf Cobb AP.

Guys it wasn't a tune issue, I spoke with Lucian it was a fuel starvation issue.

It's actually funny... I blew the engine Friday night. I had scheduled to meet with Reza the following Saturday evening, so he can get rid of the Cobb Scrapcessport and play around with the stock ECU. But I guess the car had other plans...
It's okay. It's depressing but the more I take it apart the happier I am that I'm doing it. It was in desperate need of a clutch, and I'm going to get the diff pins upgraded as well. Gives me a winter project, and gives me a chance to take everything apart and put it back the way I want it. Clean some things up, some powdercoating, maybe a few upgrades along the way along with a fresh engine.
Should come back out better than ever if all goes well. And if nothing, it can be the paperweight that keeps my DSM company in the back of the shop all winter nice and warm under the heater.

...Lame, as I easily dial them in to 380-400 WHP safely. Reza, what are your thoughts on MRs with TC SSTs ? Can they be tuned to similar power levels? I have already dialed in a few MR's with SST, they make the same horsepower and torque #'s as there is no torque converter.

Evo X GSR transmission can handle that power in stock form, no upgrades required. I find it to be simpler and much better solution to a problem SST transmission. These cars are not that old yet so parts are not cheap, but for a shop like mines, we have the resources to do this easily. Of course the SST can be built tougher, but GSR transmission is already like that at 1/5th the price and parts are as cheap as any other syncro transmission
