When I bought my car I found that the shifter was pretty stiff and took some effort to engage into gears. After doing some very spirited driving on the highway, merging past a truck that didn’t want to let me ahead of him, I find that now it only takes like on finger to put my tranny in gear. It also feels like I don’t have the torque that I use to have. I was taking a long shot and guessing that maybe I glazed the clutch disk or something when I was trying to pass the truck. The only think is I don’t understand how that would affect my shifter. I am not totally sure but I think my clutch may be a little bit softer then it was before. Any ideas on what may be wrong?

You can test the clutch by engaging a high gear at a low speed and pressing the gas.
If the rpm flys up instad of bogging from the load - your clutch is toast.

Took the car out again and tested to see if the clutch is gone but it doesnt seem to slip. It just seems like it doesn't grab as hard as it use to. When I first got the car, I would have to really ease the clutch out to launch or it would bog down bad. Now I can just let the clutch out with now problem. The car is still fast but it just seems like I lost some torque or something.

No I just got back from a long drive and there is something very different. Before when I would launch the car would pull really hard and throw your head back into the seat. Now it just accelarates more gradually without the whiplash action. My girlfriend was even asking me today why the car was taking off so slow. I thought maybe it could be a boost issue but I am still getting 15psi on my gauge.

Sounds almost like timing is being pulled, what kind of gas is in the car right now? You should also inspect for an exhaust leak before the turbo (leaky gasket, cracked manifold etc.) and also you should verify you have no boost leaks. Do you notice any black smoke out the back of the car when you lay on it?

No I dont notice any smoke or anything like that. It just seems as if my clutch isn't grabing the flywheel fast enough. I am kinda thinking maybe I glazed the the clutch or flywheel but I see how that would make my shifter feel so soft.

You are mixing up different issues. The fact that your car shifts easily is a good thing and has nothing to do with torque or worn clutch.

Next. If you have tested your clutch as described and dont notice any obvious signs of slipping then its not the clutch. A change in the engagement point or a softer engagement is most likely a sign of wear but if the clutch is holding when engaged then its not your problem yet.

Next. If the clutch is holding but you seem to lack power then it is most likely engine related as described above even though you appear to be achieving the same boost. Pulled timing, boost leak, bad 02, ignition, plugs, fuel delivery etc etc.

As long as the clutch does not slip, (you have good drive to all driven wheels)then your clutch is not worn out yet.
When you got the car it could have sat idle for a while & developed some rust on the drive face of the flywheel. Much like brake disks & drums, but instead of the grinding noise you got a bit of clutch judder. When you drive the car hard on the clutch, after a while the rust will be cleaned off the flywheel & you will get a smoother take up from the pedal.
Does that make sense ? cant say why the engine feels flatter though, did you put correct octane gas in it? I believe these cars need 91 for best perfomance. freak
