I was just woundering about dsm auto trannys How durable are they? You hear about alot of problems with them. Do Tre or shepard build up auto trannys? Do you think a auto tranny dsm would be a over all faster car in the end after mods? I'v never drove a auto dsm befor so I don't know how they work. Is there a reason they put a smaller turbo and injectors on the autos? I was intrested in getting a auto AWD talon if I sell mine in the spring. Thanks Steve

Hello.
I'm personaly not big on Automatic Tranny but a well moded Auto Tranny can shift pretty fast.
One of the guy on the Quebec UBB did a trinket that allows the DSM Tranny to be Paddle shifted. Google TCUGO.
A few are using it with excellent results.
An other adventage would be that it allows for very consistent 1/4 times which would be good if you like to do braket racing.

My first DSM was 93 AWD auto, and I loved it. Never gave me any problems(compared to my other two M/T ones  ), and I haven't heard others having issues with them either. Overall it's much more gentle on your drivetrain during launch. With better brakes and T/C you can build some crazy boost off-line. Definitely beats manual in rush hour city driving. You might wanna replace the end clutches on the higher mileage ones, and upgrade valve body since you are at it and that's it she's good to go. IPT sells tons of stuff for W4A33 tranny. With large turbo(20g or bigger), daily driving wouldn't be much fun(less fun than M/T anyhow), depends what you looking for.

I am not sure if the 1G trannies were made by Chrysler or Mitsubishi, but I know Chrysler auto tranny's were terrible in the 90's.
You could probably find shift kits and upgraded torque converters for them somewhere.
The only advantage I can see for auto tansmissions is bracket racing or general drag racing. Personally I will never get a car with an auto tranny. (maybe just a personal preference).
