Well it goes on sale in April for $24k US and it has a turbo wagon version as well. 227hp is less than most were hoping for but that could be changed easy enough. 0-60 in 6.1s claimed. http://www.subaru.com/news/press_releases/pr_01/01_0109_WRX.html

Thats like $36,000CAN. Doesnt seem that expensive for todays market. The big question i have is will these cars be mod friendly to produce some high hp numbers? Are they available in Canada? ------------------ www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Flats/9907/ 92 Eagle Talon TSi FWD 90 Red Laser rs-T -RIP90 Black Laser rs-T -RIP

I don't like the looks . I've quite liked the past Imprezza but this one has gone buggy... kind of a contour meets a Tibouron . Maybe I'll warm up to it. I still have yet to see a car with performance, looks and value enough to make me want to sell my baby. ------------------ Quadcylla92 Laser RS-T FWD

Its growing on me. I like the fender flares. Nice brakes and 300lbs lighter than the talon AWD. As far as parts, there should be plenty available. The WRX has been on sale in Japan and Europe for a while and the ralley cars make 300+ hp out of the same 2.0L.

looks like the designers took a neon, tiburon and a civic and smucked them all together... even with the performance behind it, I think it's gonna take a while for it to grow on me... I 'was' looking forward to it coming to Canada, but frankly, I'm disappointed with it's looks.. ------------------ 93 Talon Tsi AWDsealed up for freshness www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Street/1125/

I think it looks like a mix between an Accent and Neon. Yuk.
Finally we get an affordable AWD turbo, but first they made it ugly. Damn. I hope I get used to it.

Why did they put the intercooler on top of the engine? There's nothing like a hot intercooler to try and cool the intake air. That would be the first thing I would change with it. ------------------ 91 Eagle Talon TSi AWD My Attempt at a website [This message has been edited by Vince Amato (edited January 11, 2001).]

The WRX has endless mod potential, guys in OZ get some serious horsepower out of these things.
Boost is already at 14.5 psi though.
At the Sydney motor show they also had a works WRC car and it has the bug eye lights replaced by twin exon beams in a carbon fiber surround, looks really mean.

I said the same about the headlights in my dad's new Sonata, but the design is growing on me. Better since I notice a LOT more cars (and nice ones) getting this 'bug' look.
Now, it's a toss-up between which will cost less to bring in. The Impreza WRX, or an EVO VI...

I test drove one of the last year models. The N/A 165 HP was a bit of a deception and I could hear a big "Clunk" while powershifting. That one could be easyly fix by replacing the Engine Mount by stiffer one.
I'll be trying the 2002 for sure. 227HP in the stock form sounds pretty good specially if you can make more by simple bolt on.
As for the style; I'm not too crasy about the "Neon Light" but the overall look ain't that bad. This 4 doors would be for the wife's daily driving until she decides to buy an other one once this car warenty expires, than it would be mine...

I drove the 165hp version also (2.5RS) and it was slow. The guys at promax started dropping WRX engines into them, they were imported from japan. The cost? 15000CDN including installation and taxes. But at least the bring the suspension, brakes and all the necessary internals for the WRX to be installed. The owner kept bragging that it could beat anything on the street and started his DSM bashing. I didn't really appreciate that. I was DSM less already so I couldn't prove anything but now that the new car is here. They will probably start modding those. The interior of the 2.5RS is butt ugly but the new design has changed the interior. Well, there are currently like 2 WRX's rolling around in the toronto so everytime u guys see those subaru's with a promax sticker on it. KILL IT!!!!!! Especially those heavily modded DSMs...

Well, depending on if I can actually get a job as a developer after I ace my course...
I've got a call in to that place that Chia is dealing with to see how much it would be to import a Tommy Makinen Edition EVO VI over here, compared to a Subaru WRX. We're not as anal as the US, so it shouldn't be too bad.

Well, the Tommy Makinen edition is $26,000US from them. I don't think that Mitsu could do any better direct from the UK. That's about $39k CDN, and whatever it costs to bring it over. This is the same as the RS (GSR?) I think, but looks more rally-prepped.
Mitsu UK has a Lancer EVO Extreme (I think). This is AWESOME. Where the normal EVO's do 0-100km/h in 4.4 secs, this one does it in 4 flat. Titanium turbo and all.
The only problem is that the Tommy M. edition is the only one offered in left hand drive...

I read in the car and driver magazine that it is running a mitsubitshi turbo and is at 14.5 psi...could possibly be a tdo5 14b... so you can't really raise that boost the way we did in the talon without doing something to the fuel system. I guess the fuel pump is better on those cars cause it's probably from the WRX...

I have been looking into this Tommi Makinen Lancer and I seem to find that the price is more like 28000 English pounds , not 28000 U.S.Dollars. If this is the case, that would mean the Lancer is $56000 dollars before importing fees and cost ! Yikes.....

Nope. The price was quoted was "26,000 US dollars collect Europe". And I remember a guy in Belgium had a bunch of them for $42k CDN, which is about the same. The Extreme model with the titanium turbo and other mods is WAY more expensive.
I'm trying to find an email contact with Mitsubishi that can tell me what, if any, CDN safety standards it doesn't meet. I'm betting that they do, but they don't run seperate CDN tests.

A lot of people would be...
Unfortunately, it doesn't look good. I'm having trouble trying to find a contact at Mitsu that I can ask. Otherwise, the CDN DOT won't even consider it.
I do hear that Mitsu is starting to think about importing Lancers to the US, though. That should do it...

At the Montreal Auto Show, Subaru Canada announced the price of the new 227 horsepower Impreza WRX model. Both sedan and wagon (hatchback) WRX models will start at $34,995 with a standard five-speed manual transmission. Still, it dosen't look like a 2G. Then again, it took me some time to "warm" to it as well.

That'd be the route I would take if I couldn't get an EVO. But I also see that BMW is also coming out with some AWD models...
Besides, you could always swap the parts between your new WRX and an older RS, and have one to sell, and the older one as a new hi-powered ride. (:

In the march issue of SCC there is a nice article on the WRX. They say that the US version has 3 cats on the car!!! One is before the turbo!!! They also said that the Japanese version has a larger compressor wheel and uses 17psi....stock But also has the pre turbo cat. If the american version uses the same fuel system as the Japanese version turning up the boost may not be as hard as we thought. A few test pipes and you have a sweet almost stock car. ------------------ 91 Eagle Talon TSi AWD My Attempt at a website
