Darko, someone told me that the japanese say the brakes as the size of the rims. They are NOT 17" brakes, but they are so big that you need 17" rims

Taken from the January issue of Car and Driver by: Peter Lyon

Quote
The U.S. -spec model will ... be reduced about five horses from the Japanese-spec car's claimed 280 to about 275 horsepower at 6500 rpm. The Japanese versions have 285 pound-feet of torque at 3500 rpm, and ... the torque will be down slightly in the U.S. model too. cry
Although one Japanese model of the Evo will get a six-speed manual gearbox this time around, the U.S. -bound cars will have five-speed manuals and a five-speed automatic with manumatic shifting buttons on the steering wheel. Other trick stuff that won't appear on U.S. cars are the Evo's traction-control systems, AYC (Active Yaw Control) and ACD (Active Center Differential), which comes with three settings for snow, gravel, and tarmac. cry Mitsubishi says, however, that these systems will be offered down the road as options. ...... Prices should run from $27,000 to $29,000 (USD of course)

I was just reading on the Motor Trend "Future Vehicle Forecast" that in 2006 the Dodge Neon will be redesigned which "coincides with next-generation Mitsubishi Lancer launch."

I hadn't heard the exact date of the next gen Lancer, so I'm assuming that's when Canada will get it? Anyone have any input on that?

The new Suby WRX STI at the Detroit auto show has a 2.4L 300hp, alum hood, manual adjust transfer case (torque split), front and rear LSD, brembo brakes....

Will either of these cars be available in Canada? I've heard all sorts of rumours but no official word or facts yet. The new Mitsu dealers around here claim that whatever the US gets, we will also get the same. As for the just announced Suby STi, we'll have to wait and see... anyone have any updated news or care to speculate? RX8, 350Z, G35 Coupe, Evo, STi, Supra, it's nice to see that the sporting car market is heating up once again!

Subaru has confirmed the STi is coming here. We are not getting the Lancer EVO. We WILL be getting a "Ralliart" performance version of the Lancer, which will be mostly cosmetic.

Well that sux about the Evo but good to hear the STi will make its way here! Btw any word on the approximate price range for the Suby? I'm guessing $45-48K Cdn.

The new RX8 is a test market car, its gutless off the line (low torque) but has a good top end (high HP) and we can expect to see a 4G RX7 with the new rotary engine if Mazda is satisfied with its sales/reliability of the RX8. From what I understand the RX8 is being billed as more of a sporty family car (that's why they have the suicide doors, makes it a 4 door rather than a 2 door) The word on the street about the Supra is that we (North America) will see a 5G Supra around 2005, it will have a V6 rather than an inline 6 and no word yet on Turbo, IC, torque, HP etc etc etc... These are the things I have heard, mostly word of mouth from friends who are more in the know than I am so please don't quote me on any of this!

Gary

I guess I'm a lucky guy, I went to the detroit autoshow and drooled over the EVO VIII, the STi and RX8 (actually got to sit in it). The evolution will be badged mitsubitshi evolution, run on semi slicks advan A046 if I remember correctly, have a butt ugly interior (I'm sorry but it is), altezzas and a carbon fibre wing. They gave the american's the VIII cause it will fit the front mount with the bumper so that's good news. The STi will cost about 32k USD and have a 2.5l 300 hp motor, will have a better interior too. RX8 looks kinda weird, have suicide doors and a not too impressive interior, the 350Z is a much better package than that car.

Ok Guys,

Let me know your thoughts on this idea ...

Everyone wants an EVO and so do I ..... I have had hands on personal experience importing a car from the US and found it to be real easy and would do it again!! Does anyone know when this car will be avaiable to the public to put a deposit on? I'll go right to Dan Georger Mitsu and put a deposit if I can leaglly bring it back.

According to the RIV (as of today Jan 15/03) the Lancer is allowed to be imported into Canada

http://www.riv.ca/english/html/how_to_import.html

Now, do you think the government will change this once the EVO is avaiable to be sold?

What are your guys thoughts on this .....

I thought having a Spyder GST was cool ..... but a real EVO would be cooler ....lol ....
