It's not just you... Although I've worn out my welcome on this topic, as I have no sympathy for insurance companies, I find myself HAVING to respond. I own an 88 Lebaron and a 93 Talon. Last year I paid $132 for both. This year I pay $189 for both (a month). $57/month is a back breaker. Last year I was unemployed for six months and depended upon my LeBaron (the cheaper vehicle) to get to interviews. Guess which car went up the most in that $57? Not the Talon... So, had this occurred this year I would either: a) eat 2 eggs a day or b) not drive my car, not get to interviews and not get a job. At the time, most of my interviews were in northern Toronto, virtually inaccessible. It's true that insurance companies have lost money due to greedy people (false claims, frauds, hiking claim costs because they go through insurance etc) but that's where they should be getting back the cash. They already gooned me by starting me up at high rates due to my sex. With my clean record they are up about 30 - 40 K on my record. Insurance Companies and Banks are among the greatest "rip you off" companies in the world. Time for the government to step in and stand by the people who elected them and say "enough is enough".

I will give Quebec two thumbs up for getting the insurance thing right. Pay 255$ A year for plates (Which covers lawsuits) Insurance is just for the actual car. Rates are insanely low in quebec. Ex: I was paying 120$ a month (Just PL and PD) No theft or fire or collision. I called a quebec insurance and asked how much it would be if I moved to quebec and insured through them. (PL PD). She told me 69$. So I asked about full coverage. 89$. It's time to move I think.

It's absurd! The insurance industry is claiming 2 things: 1. Cars are more high-tech today and are therefore more costly to repair, and 2. They did not make enough profit last year.
Can anyone see the flaws in these two statements? 1. My car is STILL a 1991 car. Always has been. Don't see how that becomes MORE expensive to repair just because VW came out with a Toureg, or BMW added some advance stability control. Why should MY rates go up?
2. They didn't make "enough" profit? Although down a bit from previous years, the industry made millions of dollars profit last year. It just wasn't "enough". They are losing money from people filing false claims? It is the Insurance Companies fault these bastards are filing false claims! Not anyone else's fault. Why are we getting penalized for THEM not doing a better job?
Am I wrong about these 2 statements? No. I got them right from my own State Farm agent.

I'm definitely in agreement with Dan. It seems that the insurance companies don't really reward you for good driving. When I was 24, I paid more insurance than my sister who had 2 accidents and a minor infraction within 2 years of driving. While I strongly dislike people who defraud the insurance companies, I can certainly sympathize with their motives. Now a days I think it's all about the bottom line rather than making sure the clients are satisfied.

1) Insurance is supported by stats. Here's a stat for you. No at fault accidents, no tickets. What makes them think I'll get one any time soon. I've been driving for almost 10 years now. When do I get a break. Remember next time an insurance company spouts off their stats crap like under 25 is more prone to accidents and females get into less of them. Stats can prove anything. Stats can be tainted by the sample they use. You guys remember that racist guy every one knew in highschool who said that 90% percent of minorities take whitey's jobs? Same thing here. Using stat's to justify your position is nothing short of profiling. Cops can't do it. Employers can't do it. Why should insurance companies? 2) Did not make enough profit last year? Billions earned through interest. Millions able to be deducted as loss even though it's never spent. A market forced to buy their service? And they did not make enough profit? WTF. If you have more money then you started off with, you did good. This makes me want to smash things.
