Well I remember the 65 one with the resulting mini baby boom. I hope I didn't get my wife pregnant last night. The thought of having a teenager around when I'm in my mid sixties is horrifying. Had fun though.

Good job getting the site up. ROGERS cable as usual is not working. I've got to get a dish.

Cheers Tony

The power came back up around 5 am this morning at my house. I drove in to work and there are still a lot of areas with no power.

Shagging out of boredom was great last night laugh

there is nothing really funny about having the AC on. Induction loads make the reenergizing the network litterally couple of hundred percents harder. Not everyone is to know the technical details and whys of it but when the the things are chaotic enough to have province wide State of Emergency declatred there is a reason for Hydro ask to shut off induction loads.

I was personally using a computer and the net until 12AM last night but I depended on a set of batteries.

But was a nice experience after all. as unfortunate as it was, it was a much needed to Ontario government to stop fracking ith the Power Network.

Some of Ancaster never lost power at all, which was really bizarre. But we had full power, in my part of Hamilton, by midnight.

My parents are in Detroit, and called me last night - They had a curfew of 10 pm! The police were roaming the streets sending everyone home.

Actually Amin, the grid worked absolutely perfectly.

What you say? How so?

When the problem in the states hit, our network scrambed, and shut down, just as it should, to protect us, and itself.

Getting reactors out of "safe" mode, just takes time.

If you want to blame anyone, blame the liberal idiots that keep making everyone move away from nuclear power... if we had more reactors, this might not have had to take as long as it's taking... frown

BTW, guys, turn off the A/C... my house still has no power, which means no water for me. 7 month old child and mother, in desperate need of power to return.

I am not saying the grid didn't work. In fact i can't see where in my post there was something along those lines.

The grid did work and went into safe mode. But I am sure you know well that capacitive(not inductive actually) loads (most brush motors(universal)) draw a HUGE current to start.

That means if during the start up or in time of a surge there are too many Motors to be started that would make the task REALLY hard. The solution would be to power up cities in smaller chuncks and hence it will take longer. Not that one AC would make a difference in terms of hours we have to wait but these are factors.

Nuclear power is truely safe and infact beside Chernobil(Sp??) it's been incident free however production capacity was part of the problem. A big portion of it was the distribution system which was being stretched to hell and once the over load happened it couldn't run safely anymore.

anyways
I wish you get th epower back soon. I just recieved a call from home that there is no reason for me to go home because water is gone and Elevators dont work.

Mr. Bienhaus,

I agree, the system worked as it was designed to but maybe there is a better alternative. My friend in Boston, Ontario (you turn south from Paris while heading to London), didn't lose power. He's on a different grid.

I agree on your other point too. I don't use profanities except for that 'four' letter word 'liberal'. Calling someone that is the best way to insult them.

Chill out if you can. I'm going swimming despite the bugs and all. The pump and skimmer need electricity to keep the pool clean. What a nuisance.

Cheers Tony

I just got power at home 5 minutes ago. No power for 24 hours and 30 minutes. I was at work when it went off, after we powered down all our computers leaving just our servers and phone system up we had 6 hours of battery power left. But we called it a day and shut everything down then we could. I had my gf login to here as me to get some info from a private msg I sent. Between my radio and my 2 scanners I had lots of entertainment during all this. As for odd power how about my power coming on and the house nextdoor to me was dark, they just got power as I am typing this. We are on different grids I have seen it happen before.

Sh*t, I thought I was one of the last to get my power back (I thought maybe I had pissed off God or something). Got it back around 2:00pm today. It seems everybody I called had theirs back hours and hours before me.

No power?, the Devil you say! Yah mine was out for 27 hours. I live in the country and no power means no water, plus my sister has a 2 month old, the heat was killing him. The ranch that my buddy's mom works at has no power still and no water for the 50+ horses that they have, there may be a few casualties if they don't get some power soon.

My power has gone and came back again since I have been home. I guess some parts of KW got power as early as 7pm yesterday. Others at midnight. Mine came back at 5am, then cut out again for anther 2 hours. I guess the word around the campfire is that its gonna keep comming and going around town like that to share the little power we have over the whole area untill it is back up to normal levels.

I think those of us in Burlington got lucky. I know parts of northern Burlington had their power back up as early as 7pm last night, I'm in the south and we've had it since 9pm last night. Looks like it went out once since then, not sure how long, I wasn't home.

I got *really* lucky with gas. The time on my receipt shows 4:11pm. Must've been literally seconds before the power went down when I filled her up.

you could have been even more lucky if you had filled up and right then the power and hence the pump and cash had gone.

McGregor ON (Recently Moved)

My power came back on around noon today although I was at work selling grocery & dairy products to customers hard pressed to find bread and milk. I didnt have to be there but what else was I gonna do at home? Might as well help out and that I did. 200 loafs of bread later, 30 bags of milk and cases and cases of bottled water we closed up at 3.

Ive got to say, getting gas wasnt bad at all. The place was packed but it didnt take long at all. Everyone was in an out quickly (Pioneer on Howard)

Im happy the power was back, were surviving on fan power and the windows are open. We turned the TV on for a little while to check the news see how the situation was progressing.

Really overall, this wasnt that bad IMO. Despite the erieness of a perfectly dark city.

Everyone with an ACT Clutch must have enjoyed the gridlock all the way home, the one day I didn't take my Gixxer to work. Ended up 'bonding with my fellow drinkers' as the bars were open all night.
