I am now with ING insurance coverage for my 95TsiAWD. Rate is $121/month. That includes a discount for clean driving record, multiple line(house/car), and married , 29yrs old, with no drivers training.
Liability Deductible $1000 Collision deductible $500 Comprehensive deductible $300
Interesting note at bottom of the policy reads: "Modified or customized includes changes, other than repairs or restorations that affect the original manufacturer's design specifications or increase the value of the automobile. These may include, but are not limited to: engine mods, paint changes, non-factory installed wheels, tires and electronic accesories and equipment etc." "there is a 1500 limit on non-factory installed electronic accessories and equipment."

I"m with Belair, which I believe has ties to ING.
I have the same stuff as you but I'm 24, 3 tickets, lots of modifications, lots of commuting and I pay $185/mnth
I think that's a great rate compared to some of the crap you guys are getting through brokers. I refuse to use a broker. Why pay the middle man when you can go right to the source?

Well, I thought I was paying too much, but compare to other, it's not too bad, I'm paying 56.25$/month right now, and I'm 26, with 2 speeding tickets. I only have comprehensive(100$ deductible) doh. I'm with Meloche Monnex(Electrical Engineer).

Rob, Thanks I figured as much. I was more worried they would cease to insure your car if a claim was made and therefore an agent determined the cost of the claim (finding non-OEM parts). Or worse a claim was made and your car found to be modified, therefore the insurance company leaves you to deal with bills, etc.

Ontario needs to change over its insurance to a public type of insurance. Saw it on the news last night, Quebec, Manitoba, Sask, and BC all have pubilc insurance which means low rates. I still insure my car in Quebec and pay $1200/yr, same coverage in Ontario is over $3000/yr! BS I tell you.

I agree but I don't see the government putting all those insurance agents, companies out of business...I figure they have politicians in their back pockets along with all our cash.

I dont know about BellAir direct. They have a knack for increasing rates after a "cheap" first year.
My rates went up from $98/mth to 166/mth for the galant for no reason (oh well...if 9/11 was reason enough so they say)...that was fucked up so I switched to another company and got it back down to $105/mth.

I've had good sucess with BelAir Direct. I got a letter in the mail saying my rates were going up, but when the transaction went through I noticed they were actually less.

MY car is under my dad's name along with my winter beater, and I am 23. My rate is 106 a month for a 97 Tsi with everything covered and a 300 dec. I have 8 points on my license and this hasn't really affected there insurance that much. State Farm seems to be kind to those that insure everything under them. I have had 3 claims in the last 4 years. I don't know what the deal is but i like it. State Farm has always handled my claims quick and easy as well.
Just my .02 cents.....

For Thomas Toth,
Llyods (yes 2 l's) of London will insure anything,(Betty Grables legs and Bogarts pet tarantula to name a few), but I doubt you would like their rates and they are currently being sued by their 'names'. The red, blue and black book values do not take into account any mods so I think you are out of luck with regular insurers unless you pay for specific riders. I have riders for my mechanics tools and for the artwork in my house and pay a premium for them above the basic rate for a policy.
However, a thought occurred which will require a bit of phone work. Contact the CNE and the Airport Centre and ask about the car shows they put on. Find out who underwrites the shows and if they are willing to give you a list of exhibitors. If so track down the exhibitors with modified cars, call and politely ask how they insure their cars for more than book value.
Another idea, email a Canadian car magazine and ask how do I insure a car for more than it's book value or send the same question to the 'I help' guys in the consumers section of the local papers. There is also that Canadian TV show Motoring 2003. No idea how to contact them. Use the net.
Just some ideas that require a bit of time and research but it may give you the coverage you want.
I'm restoring vintage, not ricer nor racer so I can't help much further. 91 TSi FWD 160K about to be stored yet again due to the upcoming weather.
Good luck and let the rest of us know if you find any underwriter willing to go past the book value. Thanks.
Ali,
I'll look at what I pay tomorrow and post again with a breakdown. I do know I have 3 million liability. If you ran someone over who earns six figures you will be sued for potential lost income to their age of legal retirement 65. I believe the legal low limit for coverage is 500K. Hence some of the the discrepancies in price in the other posts. If you want to risk your wages being garnisheed forever and believe in luck go for the cheaper coverage. Cheers Tony
